The Scholars are a new original band originally from Adelaide but now based in Melbourne, with an original sound and limited vocabulary. They put 312% into their original performances and it is reflected by their complete exhaustion at the end of their shows. New audiences have been won over by the energy, enthusiasm, excitement and alliteration they put into their performance.
The Scholars have released two EPs Soma and Nemesis. The band has decided to place free downloads of their studio releases on their website (www.thescholars.com.au). If they give it to you for free, you can't steal it!
Their music is difficult to categorise due to the stylistic diversity of their music. They have been described by Carolyn Tran on Triple J Radio as 'keyboard driven bent rock'. Their lyrics are witty and inventive and reflect their sarcastic, skewed take on life.
The Scholars have developed a loyal following playing at venues around Adelaide such as The Jade Monkey, The Grace Emily, The Prince Albert and The Crown & Sceptre. They have now made their way over to Melbourne Town and have played the Rob Roy, The Tote, Empress, Fibbers and The Espy.
Both Ben and Jamie have a classical background in music. Besides writing the bulk of material for the band, Jamie also composes and arranges music for orchestras. He has had a couple of commissions from the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra as well as written countless arrangements for the the ASO, WASO, Orchestra Victoria and the Aukland Philharmonia arranging the music of The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Tim and Tex and most recently The Hilltop Hoods.
The Scholars played with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra in July last year as part of the ASOs new concert series The Edge. Hooray for us.

Terribly rude to take up your message board space, but this gig means a massive amount to the band and we’d love to see everyone and anyone who is able to come along share the night with us. We’ve got a lovely, shiny new EP to launch and we’re going to put on a great show that will exceed all your expectations. Please come along and bring your friends for what will definitely be a great night of music and merriment!
