Texas Platters

The Service Industry
Limited Coverage (Sauspop)
The most remarkable thing about the Service Industry is that no one did it sooner. With all the kitchen-bred musicians in Austin, it's high time a band coalesced around the plight of beleaguered day-jobbers. Following last year's restaurant-centric debut, Ranch Is the New French, the local pop collective emerges as a leaner, meaner, Middle American music machine fueled by a more generalized brand of occupational dread. As frontman Mike McCoy drolly depicts death by 1,000 paper cuts on "Now Wake Up and Die," Julie Lowery's melancholic backing vocals give the would-be anthem a palpable hint of grace. "Have to Go to Work" hits like a prison work song reimagined by Cheap Trick, while "Hollywood out of Austin" cheekily excoriates the VIP puffery of certain celluloid transients. Throw in a swell cover of the Undertones' "You've Got My Number (Why Don't You Use It?)," and you've got the pitch-perfect soundtrack for your next union potluck.

Hey look at this everybody!!! http://www.txmusic.com/cdreviews/2008/04/the-service-industry
Formed in the summer of 2005,various members of underrated musical projects based out of Austin, Texas and Lawrence, Kansas vented their hatred of working in service industry jobs into a poisonous tirade against the American classes who demand extra salad dressing and flawless table service with their debut album, 'Ranch Is The New French" in October of 2006. Having just finished their follow up 'Limited Coverage', which features the wonderfully inventive guitar stylings of Curt Kirkwood of the Meat Puppets, The Service Industry still delivers well crafted dirt pop and intense, unsettling live shows where the old motto "the customer is always right" has no meaning.

To those concerned: My name is Brad and I Started my new job today at Hu Hot as a Fry chef. Mc'Culture has inherently taken over Mongolian quiz en with this crack at a buffet. I get tips and a little more respect then any other mall job but still. My first shift was spent slowly pacing counter clockwise around the masive circle stove fast flipping meat and mashing gallons of customer selected sauces noodles and meat to temperature under the guise of some west coast sushi grill HutHot based its factory off of. To those more unaware, it is like Chipotle, or Panera bread. Its what star bucks is to free wi-fi and those shitty pre cooked bakery goods. Cheap factory style labor and product value, but at the same time, dressed up nice enough for rich white fat asses with no real knowlege of quality to chew till there silly. For my eight hour shift, I fried what seemed like an endless slurry of pork, chicken, beef and what seemed to be crab, just to have to scoop up more and more, tumbling off of the stove and in to the toilet. It was while i paced around the grill i thought of your song, and i asked my self seriously, "why would someone poor a liquid meat in too a form?" How could so many places like HuHot take so many things for granted. You can count on a lot of gas stations even now with the same theme. FRESH!!!! !!!!!!! ! ! only about 2/3 of the chicken slurry patties Kwik Trip produces actually sell. The others find there way to the dumpster, still warm. why can't I just find a real honest job. No masive amounts of polution just for single size disposable portions. only food factories hire kids now a days.
