A lot of bands arrive full of promise. A few go on to achieve greatness. Most are never heard of again. But just occasionally, a band appears with a focus and a force so powerful that it seems they've emerged fully-formed and you wonder where such startling original talent can have been hiding. Motion Pictures are such a band, springing, as if from nowhere, with a visionary soundtrack to accompany the imaginary movies inside our heads.
Since the release of ‘Devil’s Chimney’, in April ’04, band ‘Drew’ have been touring the country with London based group ‘Obi’, playing gigs in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds and Cardiff. In addition to playing an acoustic tour around the south of England, ‘Drew’ were also asked to support Scottish band ‘Belle and Sebastian’ on their tour of Germany. This featured gigs in Munich, Cologne, Hamburg and Berlin.
‘Drew’ went to record the follow up to ‘Devil’s Chimney’. With producer Hugh Jones (of Dodgy and The Bluetones fame) they headed up to Chapel Studios, Lincolnshire, and then to Olympic studios in London. The outcome to their four week recording session is the new twelve track album.
The Denvers are another of our IOW Music artists that actually hail from the Island. Currently residing in Shanklin lead singer Danny is a very accomplished singer/songwriter. He has recorded several EPs and LPs and has gigged constantly all over the UK for the past six years. Danny has taken the brave step to make music his sole work however with the quality of his music and performance he has little to worry about.
Danny’s troubadour nature is echoed in both his recordings and performance. With his lush complex guitar picking steering the songs onward the music rolls along with all the grace of The Kings of Convenience’s guitar playing mixed with the beautiful vocal harmonies of The Magic Numbers. Danny Goodburn is the guy at the party sat in the corner gently plucking away.
Martin Newnham is the lead singer of London-based band 'The Goondocks' and an accomplished solo singer songwriter in his own right. A multi-instrumentalist with a highly emotive and expressive voice, Marty is one of the leading lights of the UK's folk rock scene.
