   About The Seven Inches
What does it mean to be a seven inch?

It means to be a footsoldier of beauty, with joie de vivre as your creed

Commitment to socialist folk music, soul power, classical sturm und drang, rock and roll realism, pop love, gospel truth, experimental ideology, and punk creativity.

To believe in content over competence, style over content, and honesty over style.

To provide a pop-up paper theatre, a miniature masquerade, a quixotic cultural melee.

To dance and dance till the musics over

To always listen to the b-side

To create miracles in your spare time to give you consolation in your unfree time to make ridiculous claims like some puffed-up charlatan, or spurious god

"...The Seven Inches have to be one of the best kept secrets in Britain right now, though a bit Britpop. (And that Ian is a weirdo, he drinks cough medicine onstage!)"

Forest of Sound

Jul 21 2008 8:44 AM

For this Forest of Sound we’re getting together with our good friends at Misplaced Music to celebrate the release of Gareth S.
Brown’s new album, The Gallows on Misplaced Music (order here).

Bracken makes simply stunning music - walls of ambient sound, dark dub bass and atmospheres, destroyed and re-claimed found sound, beats that range from over-powering to perfectly understated.

Gareth S. Brown creates gorgeous work of layered beauty with nods towards Philip Glass, Terry Riley and Michael Nyman as well as latter day travellers such as Max Richter, Yann Tiersen and Aphex Twin.

Sketches for Albinos makes a sound that manages to be both truly heartfelt and organic, but also encompassing the majestic glacial soundscapes that would make the likes of Tim Hecker or Fennesz proud.

The Declining Winter are a new musical project, led by Richard Adams, the co-founder of Domino Records group Hood, and is influenced by the music of Low, The Durutti Column, Songs of Green Pheasant and more. They have recently toured with ambient legends, Stars of the Lid. Live they’re a wonderful, beautiful, pastoral experience.

Friday: 1/8/2008 @ The Packhorse, Leeds. Doors 7.30pm. £5 on the door.
Join the last fm fun here.

Forest of Sound

Efterklang are astounding on record - a fusion of electronics, sea song, rock and ambience that envelops you slowly and beautifully. Live, they take this core of beauty and project it with such force in to the audience that it takes on a whole new life - every emotion amplified, every note laden with passion. If you caught them last time, you know you can't miss it again. If you didn't... well, you know what you have to do...

Bracken , led by Chris Adams (co-founder of Hood), make simply stunning music - walls of ambient sound, dark dub bass and atmospheres, destroyed and re-claimed found sound, all topped with vocals & lyrics from a man who knows his own heart.

James Yates’s solo show is something to behold - organic electronics, perfect drums, spot on percussion and mad-as-a-hatter inventiveness.

Thursday: 10/07/2008 @ The Brudenell Social Club, Leeds. Doors 7.30pm.
A Forest of Sound presentation in association with The Brudenell Social Club.
£7 adv / £9 on the door.
Tickets available at Jumbo Records, Crash Records, and Seetickets.

My guess is that someone out there will tattoo cashback's lyrics to a sensitive part of their anatomy.
Failing that it should at least be played on the radio! C'mon kids!

True fact: when I put the 'cashback' EP into my iTunes, the iTunes magic search library thought it was a Sean Maguire CDs. There, I've said it. You can start putting it on your fliers, if you like. Although it might attract the wrong sort of crowd.

And also, I think that your song "Little Things" is the best use of the recorder in any pop song ever.

That is all. Love you! x
