Juli 2005. In Berlaar bij Lier wordt een oud tuinhuis omgebouwd tot repetitiekot. Songs worden geschreven en instrumenten ingeplugd: The Shelter Tapes zijn geboren. Al snel blijkt dat deze muzikanten meer willen dan enkel voor zichzelf en het haardvuur te spelen en ze besluiten hun kansen te wagen bij Humo’s Rock Rally (editie 2006). Hoewel ze de finale halen, hebben ze toch het gevoel dat er nog veel werk is vooraleer ze een echte groep zijn.
The Shelter Tapes trekken zich terug om te werken. Periodes van songschrijven en repeteren worden afgewisseld met optredens doorheen het Vlaamse land.
Nu, enkele jaren later, is het dan eindelijk zover: The Shelter Tapes besluiten hun eerste single op te nemen. Als producer kiezen ze voor Pascal Deweze (Metal Molly, Sukilove e.v.a.) en in maart 2009 gaan de opnames van start.
Het resultaat, ‘Silent Signs’, stellen zij nu graag aan u voor.
‘Silent Signs’ laat horen dat The Shelter Tapes oude rotten in het vak als Neil Young en Bob Dylan erg kunnen smaken, maar ook recentere voorbeelden als Wilco en Cold War Kids zijn niet veraf. Meerstemmige vocalen, snedige gitaren, duidelijke toetsen en een stevige ritmesectie zijn de ingrediënten die The Shelter Tapes maken wie ze zijn.
The Shelter Tapes zijn Teun De Voeght (zang, gitaar), Thomas Janssens (bas), Thomas Van der Velde (toetsen, lap steel) en Jeroen Van den Eynde (drums).
