The Sheriffs of Nottingham are a warning shot across the bow of anyone
who thinks Memphis music isn't exciting anymore. Their music is born
out on the ragged frontier of rock, blues, and soul. They're too loud.
They believe in energy and emotion over technique. When they play a
show, they want everyone in the building to have as good of a
time as they do.
Justin Jamerson (vocals, rhythm guitar), Kevin Lipe (lead guitar),
Curry Smith (bass, vocals) and Kyle Fagala (drums) first got together
in early 2008.
After a long Spring of writing, rehearsing, and trying to find their
own sound somewhere
in the constellation of Memphis' musical giants, they started playing
shows and quickly built a solid following of devoted fans.
In the summer of 2009, The Sheriffs of Nottingham recorded "Hard
Places: The EP", set for a
November 14 release (and digitally at thesheriffs.bandcamp.com on
October 1). They
continue to write and perform their unique brand of rock 'n roll
music—and it is definitely that; original and yet unmistakably
Memphis. They sound like the city: rough around the edges, sometimes
beautiful, always gritty, always real. That is their aim, and they
achieve it well.
I was driving around Memphis (to Minglewood Hall actually) and listening to WEVL 89.9 FM. Janet's show (Janet's Planet) was on and guess who she played over the air waves? The Sheriffs of Nottingham! I thought that was fitting- I hear you on the radio as I pull up to the first place I saw you. hahaha
Anyway, I thought that was cool. See you on November 29th!
Thanks Sheriffs, for the add from Black Cherry Blue. Nice Soulful Sound!! Please take a listen to four songs off of our soon to be released CD and comment which one you think should be the single. Thanks again and Long Live American Rock!
I ended up at Young Avenue after the show Fri night. Pretty cool place and Great food:)
I will try to make it!!! Like I said, I am already trying to fit in a bunch of Fall shows, so no promises. You guys are in the middle of Lenny Kravitz and Moe.
I had to work Sat night, so I didn't make it. I am adding you to my work page. www.link-centre.org
Just wanted to take a moment to say thank you for the add!!! Stay in touch & if we are ever anywhere near you when we are on tour please come out to a show. And PLEASE request us at radio.
