'The Shinkickers' has been on the Perth music scene for the past ten years and has been the ongoing project of Gerry Quigley and Terry Pugh during that time. Now they have the best line up ever. Powerful, dynamic, spine-tingling are words that come to mind when you have just experienced one of their gigs. So if you are in town, find out where they are playing and treat yourself. You will not be disappointed. They are pure musical talent. (and a really great bunch of guys!)
A Brief History.......
Gerry grew up in a musical family in Dublin and started learning guitar at 14. His only formal training was from Eric Bell (the original guitarist from Thin Lizzy). His band Raw Deal achieved success in Ireland and the U.K. He moved to Australia over 20 years ago and started 'The Shinkickers' in 1995.
Terry blackmailed his parents into buying him an electric organ when he was just a wee lad of 7. Leaving school and organ lessons behind at 16 to join his first band he soon found himself in a niche of hard rock and blues. He joined up with Gerry in the early 90's and stayed for the ride when The Shinkickers was born.
The Shinkickers are now glad to announce that singer Gary Campbell is back in the line-up bringing with him his own unique style.
Gary has always had a passion for guitar music. In 1991 after a chance meeting with Rick Steele and other like- minded music lovers, he saw the birth of The Perth Blues Club, and along with Paul "PJ" O'Brien & Greg "Bugsy" Malone, formed Barefootin'. He went on to front the PBC house band on for club jam nights. Since then, he has shared the stage with Dave Hole, John Meyer, Ian Moss & WA's own "guitar gods" Gerry Quigley & Michael Vdelli. In his own words he is "once again firin' on all cylinders & burnin' to unleash his fire-breathin' vocal assault on unsuspectin' audiences far & wide"!!
Also back with the band is Neil Bushby. Neil is one of the most experienced and sought after bass players in the country today. He began playing guitar in 1968 and switched to bass in 1970, having been originally influenced by the English 'Mersey Beat' bands of the 60's. He has progressed through rock and funk and now very much involved in roots orientated music. He has performed with artists such as Rick Steele, Matt Taylor, John Meyer, ..to name a few
And last, but certainly not least, is drummer Leroy Cleaver (original Shinkickers drummer), who has been playing drums for the past 27 years. His first band was Freewill, a hard rock outfit and has since played in bands such as Cleaver Blues Band, Outrage, Gallows Pole, and The Blarney Stones ( along with Gerry and Terry- a premier Irish band). Neil Peart, John Bonham, Billy Cobham, Ian Paice and Steve Gadd are among his main influences....
So there you have it. It's been a long time in the making but finally 'The Shinkickers' has come of age and is taking it to another level.

Ever wondered what to do in the event of a nuclear threat?
A while ago I found stuff that inspired me to make this film:
Living Under the Shadow of the Nuclear Umbrella
Both artistic (ensure you get the background music!) and educational, it primarily comprises official British government civil defence advice.
Though source materials are quite aged, much remains relevant today.
