Sorry about freaking some people out. I thought that you would get it, the fact that Dicky and I are pals and were busting each others balls, as usual. Everything is fine, as a matter of fact, I just got off of the phone with Dicky about two min ago!
The Shods were formed on the dirty banks of the Merrimack River in Lowell, MA, amidst used syringes and Tylenol bottle crack pipes. But that didn't interest them; only one thing did... music, music, music. One week after they formed, they went into Carl Ayottes studio in Lowell and recorded the EP I'm in Lowell, MA. The Shods went on to sign a deal with Fort Apache/MCA, but the deal went belly up before MCA even listened to the stuff. The Shods released five albums during their eight year career, including, critically acclaimed, "Here come the Shods", 1995's MCA released "Stop Crying", "Bamboozled" (voted best indie record 1998 Boston Phoenix), "Thanks for Nuthin'" (produced by long time Boston rock hero Dave Minnehan), with the regional hit "Eddie Cross", and their final album "Tippy", "An amazing collection of songs, eclectic and wonderful!" -Steve Morse Boston Globe. "The spirit that has driven the great punk and garage bands since day one... the Shods have what it takes to bring old and new school rockers to the same club, and send them home buzzing."- Brett Milano The Boston Phoenix. Voted best live band 2000 WFNX Best Music Poll. "Nobody wears their sweat (not to mention their influences) on their sleeves or rocks a house with more full-on flare, and gusto than the Shods." -Matt Ashare The Boston Phoenix.
I scored bosstones tickets for tonight...and I thought you guys were opening...but no...I was bummed :( Maybe you can play ONE more show after Friday and I'll be there? :)
in an attempt to expose my 9 year old nephew to good music, i made him a playlist of songs i thought he should hear (he is also learning to play guitar, so that influenced a lot my choices). Out of 25 songs, his favorite is "Leadfoot". Yup, he's mine.
I tried once to tell this to your drummer, I gave him an 80% finished recording of a song I wrote; "Friday Night". I wrote it one day after seeing you guys for the first time at Bills Bar during the FNX party. I was blown away, and said to myself, "I've never written a punk rock song....even after growing up with The Clash as my personal soundtrack". I wrote this song because of the night I saw you guys. In one day, I could hear every part of the song....the drums, guitar...all because of the influence you guys had on me. I was at the Rumble Finals at the Middle East....you guys rocked. Always a place with me for you.
I thank you blesing the Worthen this Friday...we are very excited to have you, freakin royalty for cryin out load...and do I hear that it is Scott's birthday...hmmm....interesting possibilities there... I will see you bright and early on Friday..
