About The Shoes

The Shoes have gained a far and wide reputation as being one of the most musically diverse, unpredictable and exciting live bands anywhere. With self penned songs and instrumentals which show no regard for type lables, The Shoes are a mighty intake of fresher than fresh air. With a strong emphasis on dynamically excecuted spontaneous melodies, Finlay Wells leads the band on acoustic steel string guitar and nylon string electric classical guitars. Being the main writer in the band Finlay also takes most of the lead vocal parts. Gregor Lowrey (accordion) brings to the band a seemingly effortless flowing improvisational talent which beautifully complements Finlays guitar work and generates sublime musical tensions and colours between the two instruments. With some featherlite to stormingly powerful electric guitar playing from Stevie Gillies there is a constant changing of textures and dynamics in the 'Shoe' sound. Providing the backbone to all this is some compelling and skillfully measured drumming by Ashley MacMillian. Mix it all up and you have every musical style you've never heard gloriously entwined into a gig or album to remember.
