UPDATE -- The Sidecar Allstars do not exist as a house band anymore, due to The Sidecar canceling virtually all of its live music. The band, however, does still get together for the occasional session or external gig here and there. Currently, Phil and Mark have been backing R&B legend Mr. King in various performances around the Philadelphia area.
While it was alive, The Allstars made some pretty amazing improvised music, inviting a whole host of musicians to join them throughout their tenure, most notable of which was the legendary Byard Lancaster. Mark did manage to capture a lot of it on video, and at some point, more of those videos may become visible on Mark's YouTube Page.
Is there a future for The Allstars? Perhaps, but for now this project in its current nomenclature is on indefinite hold. Feel free to drop us a line here if you are looking to book a gig or to just say hello.
What follows here is the *former* bio of the band. Read its present tense in a past tense and you'll get a feel for what went down.

The Sidecar Allstars, house band for The Sidecar Bar & Grille, is the result of a serendipitous accident.
The official formation of the band happened on 01/14/2006 at the CD release party/show for From Cosmos To Chaos, a nationwide collective of musicians spearheaded by Jason Fifield. A horde of heavy-hitting musicians was assembled for the once-in-a-lifetime performance of From Cosmos To Chaos at the Chestnut Hill Coffee Co. in efforts to promote the new CD.
Two of the musicians selected for that performance were Mark DeCheser and Phil Horwitz, both longtime friends, jazz musicians, and on-again/off-again band members. Mark was plucked from his busy schedule working with Leafblower, his Electronic/IDM project with Janic Castagner, and Phil was plucked from his impossibly large collection of Jazz CDs and advanced mathematics texts for this CD release party, whereupon they were discovered by longtime friend of Phil's and restauranteur Adam Ritter of The Sidecar.
After the CD release party, Jason, Mark and Phil were informed they were now the new house band @ The Sidecar and that they would be playing house gigs 2x a month, where they would be given free reign to play whatever they pleased. The trio forms the core group, and the Allstars include many other special guests in a rotating line up of regional performers.
All the members of The Sidecar Allstars come from a jazz background. They tend to push the envelope, bring edgier and more raw textures to the forefront. They combine this often raucous avant garde edge with undercurrents of funk, reggae/dub, Latin/African, country & more experimental rhythms, always seeking to keep the rhythm moving in a forward direction.
The group has just begun, and the potential for things to evolve is already so limitless that the act already promises to please all crowds.

Chelsea’s DVD entitled “Progression of a Child Prodigy” depicts how Chelsea progresses through her musical performances. Children can often find it difficult to relate to the talents of individuals who are more than three times their age when they are asked to accomplish their musical studies. This DVD will help encourage young students into believing that it is possible to achieve musical excellence at a young age.

BACKSEAT FILM FESTIVAL NO. 5
Now in its FIFTH year, the Backseat Film Festival is a rock 'n roll film fest devoted to the best in edgy, unpretentious movies from all over the cinematic globe. An electrifying mix of zany short films, sleazy music videos, unrelenting documentaries and some of the most exciting feature film premieres around, the Backseat Film Festival is a showcase for movies that embody the youthful, exhilarating spirit of rock 'n roll. No postmodern love-stories or heavy-handed political statements here, just a lot of zombies, hot chicks, bad jokes and great music. And also, a hell of a lot of booze.
