Emerging from the city best known for its musical past comes two
musicians that have combined to form one of the most unique bands in
Memphis, The Silent Parade. Meeting at a high school talent show,
Jonathan Thomas was blown away at hearing Charlie Shaw perform. As a
result, Shaw and Thomas have been playing together for two years in a
couple different bands. Now, they makeup the core of The Silent Parade
and have released their debut album After All the Wars, produced by
Jeremiah Tucker.
Their past is one full of musical outlets and interesting avenues.
Both come from musical backgrounds that have set a foundation for
their love of music. Thomas had been writing and recording music in
his room for years, while Shaw, the son of a Southern Baptist pastor,
gained invaluable experience playing and singing in church. The
combination of their styles begat the unique synthesis of sound that
fully matures .. All the Wars. This honest, laid back album can
be characterized as a singer/songwriter record deeply rooted in rock
and Americana. It is a concept album about the condition of the human
heart that culminates in the title track, After All the Wars.
Shaw and Thomas draw most of their musical influences from each other,
but they are both inspired by Ryan Adams, Radiohead, Bob Dylan, Sigur
Ross, and Johnny Cash. These artists seem to set the mood for the type
of music The Silent Parade writes, however most fans have trouble
putting a finger on exactly what, or who it is they sound like. Some
say its a mix between Sigur Ross and Damien Rice, while others swear
its Uncle Tupelo and Radiohead. This is the mystery behind their
sound. They remind everyone of someone, but whom? The music sounds
familiar, yet at the same time, its new and fresh. This is a
characteristic few modern bands have. The Silent Parade is truly alone
in its category, but is loved by fans of all musical backgrounds.
Now with the release of the highly anticipated After All the Wars,
Shaw and Thomas are ready to expose themselves to music admirers
everywhere.
