About The $ilver Tongue$ (album available now on Amazon)
It's real simple, but for those of you who were busy catchin' some zzzz's during class, here's a refresher course on Psychedelic Soul. Psychedelic. That's head music. Music fer gettin' out of your box to. Flipping your wig to. Blowing your mind to. Soul. That's dancin' feet music. Music fer gettin' your groove on to. Movin' to. Late 60s: Hendrix & Sly & The Family Stone begin churnin' out a mutant form of acid-spiked cozmik RnB spliced together from the DNA of James Brown & The Grateful Dead. At some point The Man names this potent gumbo Psychedelic Soul. The Temptations, Funkadelic, The Chambers Brothers & many other funk-rock freaks follow. This is truly the soundtrack to the revolution, black & white brothers & sisters comin' together to tear down the doors of perception. Buzz-saw guitars, swirling hammond & fat-back drums are where it's at. This is where The Silver Tongues come in.
What you gotta dig is that The Silver Tongues ain't just another bunch of record collection rockers who think quotin' an impeccable role-call of uber fuckin' cool influences makes them an uber fuckin' cool band (but if you're askin,' their record collection is uber fuckin' cool & kicks your ass every time...how many bands you know are gettin' their kicks to Can, The James Gang & The Jesus Christ Superstar Soundtrack?) No. The Silver Tongues are the real deal. They have THE FUNK, and you don't know how rare that is. You might understand 'funk-rock' to mean The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, but brother, you'd be damn wrong. Slap bass is for stone chumps, unless you're Larry Graham, which you ain't. The Silver Tongues are funky like Jimi Hendrix's Band Of Gypsy's were funky, even how Led Zep were funky when they wanted to be...we're talkin' 'bout godzilla-heavy grooves, spaced-out, sky-kissin' rock 'n' roll nailed to the floorboards by a rhythm section who don't give a damn 'bout a thing but rattling your skull & movin' your feet. This is how bands used to do it, when drum & bass meant Ringo & Macca, when every member of a band was indispensable, hip cats lockin' in together and seein' where it goes...THE JAM. Get in a groove, expand on it, reduce it, mould it, take it apart and put it together again...
The Silver Tongues have got soul in spades, and it's that soul that makes 'em worth caring about. Any bunch of schmucks can hit the stage, turn up the Marshalls to SONIC TERROR & bludgeon you with noise warfare. It takes something special to do that & make you dance. Evil psyche guitar, loadsa that greasy ol' Hammond butter churn sound, bass lines solid like tree trunks, drums fat like your momma and a singer who oughta be preachin' & hollerin' in church rather than shatterin' the windows of yer local indie shack...let's be real here, huh? If you wanna get your groove on to organ heavy, Brian Auger-meets-Funkadelic-meets-Traffic post-Charlatans stoned soul-powered RnB, ain't many places you can go to do it. Except a Silver Tongues gig.
...what I'm offerin' you is a challenge. Go see this band: I dare you not to dig 'em the most. Who woulda thought that a bunch of Nottingham cats would wake up one mornin' channelling the spirit of the Filmore circa 1969? Sure as hell came as a surprise to me, but I guess someone's gotta do it, and at the moment The Silver Tongues are doin' a damn fine job.
