"Supersaturated" is the third album and latest offering from the primarily Boston-based band The Singhs. The versatile and eclectic five-piece group brings its extensive musical skills to bear on the most mature and polished work they've created in the 7 years they've been working together.
The Singhs' first album "The Edge of The World" (2003) explored the vocabulary of classic rock anthems and soft ballads; and the second, "Blind" (2005) went Eastwards in its influences, blending traditional Indian instruments with a high-energy rock sound. Now, after over three years of writing, arranging and recording many dozens of new songs, the twelve tracks that comprise "Supersaturated" take a very contemporary approach spanning modern rock, pop, and funk elements. Densely layered guitars and textured keyboard parts give way to intimate acoustic passages, while deep funk and a dance grooves often underpin rich multipart vocal harmonies, inviting comparisons with groups as diverse as Maroon 5, Prince, and Death Cab For Cutie.
Anchored by the widening vocal palette of lead singer Miki Singh and the virtuoso guitar playing of lead guitarist Peter Parcek, the group unselfconsciously traverses the broad range of material on this album without it ever seeming spread too thin or inconsistent. Indeed, from the dance-funk tune "Beautiful Thing" to the lush orchestration in the acoustic waltz "What to you Want From Me", it is very clear that The Singhs' fingerprints are all over this record regardless of what genre or label you try to define them with. The song topics likewise range from the tongue-in-cheek musings of "Jealous", to the anti-war sentiments expressed in the searing guitar-heavy track "Still They Die Young".
Produced by The Singhs' long-term Boston-based producer Ducky Carlise, and with two tracks produced by Minnesota-based guest producer Jeff Taylor (many production and engineering credits for Prince, Janet jackson, Lionel Ritchie, and others), Supersaturated: was primarily recorded in a home studio in the West Indies, before being mixed to tape at Q Division in Massachusetts. Lushly layered and painstakingly detailed in its recording, the album was mastered by legendary engineer George Marino at Sterling Sound in New York.
The Singhs' "Supersaturated" combines deft songwriting, excellent musicianship, and heartfelt performances in a memorable set of songs that will have you tapping your toe while searching your soul. Seven years and hundreds of songs into the young career of this band, this third album is one that startlingly begins to define the distant boundaries of this group's ambitions.
The band produced several videos in France and India that more than 20 million viewers watched throughout the region on MTV, Channel V, and other stations. Dragonfly also toured in India twice and opened for Bryan Adams at The Parade Grounds in Bangalore to a welcoming audience of more than 40,000 people.
Now with the release of its first U.S. album, Supersaturated, the band blends its rock and funk heritage with a little blues to produce its best work yet.
