Bio
James Mattey (Guitar & Vocals) Seb Fell (Drums & Percussion) and Sarah Walker (Bass) .We are a young, dynamic and innovative rock band who perform mainly originals with a couple of covers with intensity and real excitement.James and Seb the originators of the band met in 2007 at school and were originally in a 3 piece band called Emptyness which got to the finals of Worcesterhire Battle of The Bands run by Worcestershire Arts Education performing at The Rock Cafe 2000 in Stourbridge on June 27th 2008 , They then became a 2 piece in 2008,changed their name to SJS and decided to work hard on their act and to try and make an impression in 2009. Throughout 2009 SJS took part in a number of performances organized by Worcestershire Arts Education who encourage, promote and support young local rock bands through rock showcases. Their first live performance as SJS ,when still aged 14, was in a rock showcase on February 26th 2009 at The Base Studio's in Stourbridge where they played a blistering set . This led to them taking part in the Livepod event on July 2nd at The Artrix Theatre in Bromsgrove where for the first time they played a James Mattey composition called If You Leave Me Now. Encouraged by the success of the Base Studio's performance the bands manager and loyal fan Richard Mattey entered SJS into The Mixtape 2009 Young Musicians of Worcester competition which they won. This propelled them into the limelight with a live performance on April 6th 2009 at The Marrs Bar in Worcester, alongside some other local more established acts. This achieved good coverage from the local press and some unofficial videos were uploaded to youtube. SJS played again at the Marrs Bar on May 20th 2009 at their first jamming night. Continuing this theme of success on July 1st 2009 SJS competed in their schools battle of the bands and won. With all the parents and other relatives in the audience Richard was approached by a pupils relative and SJS secured the opening set at Oakey's Summer Festival on July 18th 2009 at Little Witney. On July 4th 2009 SJS performed at the Droitwich Music Festival .SJS played a great rocking set at the Evesham Party in The Park on August 27th 2009.A video of this is on the myspace site. During Autumn and Winter 2009 James wrote a couple of songs called Insanity and Coming Back which are now included in the bands setlist.A recording of Coming Back is on the myspace website. On January 23rd 2010 SJS took part in another Rock Showcase event, run by Worcestershire Arts Education at The Reverb Store in Birmingham where they went down a storm . In Feb 2010 SJS became a 3 piece with the addition of bass player Joe Terry from Worcester .Their first gig as a three piece was on Feb 25th 2010 at The River Rooms in Stourbridge as support to Eliza Doolittle who is signed to Parlophone. They went down really well with a personal comment from Eliza posted on the myspace site "you were the best by far" ! On March 22nd 2010 SJS won the Wychavon W Factor music category award and were presented with a winners trophy. Throughout the summer gigs at Pershore Working Mens Club,Droitwich Youth Centre,Evesham Synergy Event, and music festivals in Pershore ,Droitwich,Evesham,Worcester ,Plumstock in Pershore,SnodFest in Upton Snodsbury and Party in the Park in Droitwich/Pershore/Evesham and Rock It Pink in Kidderminster. SJS were also selected by Worcestershire Arts Education for a tour of Holland/Belgium between Oct 19th and 24th 2010 where they went down a storm. On Oct 30th 2010 played Oxjam music festival in Malvern. In 2011 SJS supported signed acts AllStar Weekend from the USA, The Struts and The Hoosiers. Following the departure of Joe in Oct 2011 Sarah Walker a really talented bass player joined SJS in Nov 2011.
