Sounds Like
your favourite party mix on steroids... we love having fun and sliming out any song we play...
To tell you the truth, we really don’t know the day or the month or hell, even the year that the “Slime Dogs” started, so we just picked 1984. The music started much before that, way back in 1973 when Fernando and Mike started to play Alice Cooper tunes together... a few years later Grant joined Dennis in the rhythm section, along with a few hairy Italians on the management side and the heavy metal steel sounds of ATTIC started to infest the bar scene of Southern Ontario...
College, jobs and women put an end to that loud ass band ATTIC. After that, there were endless rebirths and musical side projects like “The South River Dirt Band”, “Third Man In” and the “Life Cycle of the Phage”, but it wasn’t until our good friend Ivar Hamilton invited us to play one of his famous farm parties with Blue Rodeo and Teenage Head that we decided to give ourselves a formal name,“the Slime Dogs from Hell” were born.“Slime” was a term we called each other, “Dogs” cause we’re not the cat loving types, and “from Hell” cause we just bad...
The band line up had changed to include JoJo Bitch on vocals and keyboards, Bubba on vocals and harp and Jimmy Joe on vocals with an endless (and still growing) collection of guest musicians such as Carlo, Paul, Ivar, Alan Cross, Captain Phil, Freddie P, Hal Harbor and humble howard just to name a few.
The Slimes went on to become the party band for CFNY which put us into opening gigs the other bands would kill for with some of Canada’s then and future stars: the Tragically Hip, the Northern Pikes, the Box and the Spirit of the West.
And then Ivar pulled some strings and before we knew it, our recording of “I want Santa” was into full time rotation at CFNY, and then our video was coast to coast on Much Music. This silly spoof song had staying power and became a staple on the holiday airwaves for five years.
The partying and carrying on put us into some fun and crazy shows in bars, arenas, Legion Halls and outdoor parties all over Ontario. The Slime Dog halloween bash has always been an event and the 1995 evening at the King City Arena was the ultimate Pumpkin Pie fight in the band’s history! We are still banned from renting facilities in most of York Region.
The band went through a major change and Mike’s little brother Stevie took over Dennis's position on the drum kit and Country Lenny joined in to add even more guitar. The highlight of this lineup of the Slime was the HeartLinks Peru Benefit Concert and CD release which had the Slimes and a classical quartet performing songs by Sting, John Lennon and the Judds.
After a brief non-performing period the Slime Dogs burst back on to the scene in spring of 2001, with a new look and a new fun party rock sound that has been entertaining crowds of all ages from Etobicoke to Stouffville to Peterborough to South River.
The Slime Dogs are Toronto's Party Rock Band, hell we’re just getting started, rock dreams never die... that’s Slime.
