BIOGRAPHY
The Slow Burners formed in Denton, Tx in Summer 2007 when George Neal (formerly of the band Little Grizzly) and the members of the Denton/Dallas band Sunday Drive decided to join forces after playing a few songs together at the going away party of some mutual friends. Initially called The George Neal Band out of sheer laziness the band eventually settled on the name The Slow Burners at the suggestion of their drummer, Grady, who generally doesn't take a whole lot of guff.
The band combines the songwriting of the former Little Grizzly front man with the inventive and well-honed musicianship of the former members of Sunday Drive in a way that draws upon a diverse variety of styles and moods. The Slow Burners offer up delicate, folksy ballads, punk intensity, thick layers of overlapping guitar and keyboard textures, gut wrenching storytelling, and barn burning rock and roll. Despite these seemingly disparate styles, the Slow Burners put it all together in a cohesive and satisfying package.
The Slow Burners are currently recording their debut album which will be released in the early Fall of 2008. A six song CD EP entitled, "Returning to the Air" was released May 2, 2008 on their own Holy War Records label and contains one track from the forthcoming album.
INK
If George Neal's former band, Little Grizzly was The Band meets Hüsker Dü, The Slow Burners might be Lola-era Kinks with Shane MacGowan's penchant for dark historical narrative. Neal's talent for character-driven songwriting has been a mainstay in Denton for seventeen years.
Paste Magazine - November 21, 2008.
There are very few bands that manage to come up with a name that really says something about the band’s sound, but The Slow Burners have done it perfectly. The electrified, countrified folk songs of George Neal’s post-Little Grizzly band smolder intensely but deliberately. Drummer Grady Don Sandlin and guitarist/keyboardist Ryan Thomas Becker are quite capable of blistering instrumentation, but usually play with considerable restraint so as to not overpower Neal’s delicate vocals and painful stories.
Jesse Hughey - Dallas Observer - August 27, 2008.
"...Neal has returned with a new band, The Slow Burners. And the man behind the project now seems more enthused than ever about playing and writing.
The group has just released its first EP, Returning to the Air—a precursor to the full-length effort the band plans to release later this year—and to be sure, the same lyrical suffering continues on this release. Doomed soldiers, cancer patients and failed fathers populate Returning to the Air in a tableau of calamity that will feel familiar to longtime Grizzly fans. It's the result of Neal gravitating toward characters that are forced to ask the big questions..."
Dave Sims - Dallas Observer - June 5, 2008.
"...George Neal and the Slow Burners took the excitement level up a notch with some downright blistering folk rock. Neal's a joy to watch with his raw, sometimes screaming vocals and spirited marching movements. The former Little Grizzly frontman has one of those voices that I'll forever associate with Denton itself, and it's good to see he's found a new band that can be equally as affecting." Hunter Hauk - The Quick - March 2, 2008.

I know you didn't have everyone last night but the show was wonderful! It felt really good to have someone screaming at me, just what I needed last night!
This week we started a fan club website for Kinky Friedman and began a campaign to Rock The Vote. So if you're really want to support Kinky during his run for Governor of Texas we want to support everything you have planned and booked by listing it within our network and creating a profile on Kinky's fan club website.
Already we're generating thousands of visitors a day, but this is just the beggining Kinky will once again become the media focus across the country he was during the last Governor's race. This will generate tremendous traffic to promote those who support the Kinkster and help us Rock The Vote giving supporters places to be and people to see.
If you want one of our webtechs to create a profile just let us know.
Sincerely, Sean Robinson Texans For Kinky Social Club
