Bio
How do you start a band in Pittsburgh when you don't live in Pittsburgh? Move there. The Slow Reel, an American Rock 'n' Roll band based in the Steel City, is the result of lucky reconnections and chance encounters. .... In 2008, Kentucky native Rob Collier began writing a collection of songs inspired by the early 1970s recordings of Delaney and Bonnie, Leon Russell, and The Faces. In 2009, both Collier and longtime collaborator Madison Stubblefield (from Nashville, TN) moved to Pittsburgh and began forming a band to play these songs. It took surprisingly little to convince their old friend, drummer Matthew Troncale, to relocate from Alabama right before a bitter Pittsburgh winter. Teal Fitzpatrick, recently transplanted from Vermont, joined the band as the keyboardist and sole Yankee soon after. .... This collection of out-of-towners has been welcomed into Pittsburgh's music scene, developing a loyal following of fans whose musical tastes embrace both past and modern incarnations of Rock 'n' Roll. The Slow Reel, while maintaining classic rock and roots traditions, began honing a distinct sound based on the strengths of its members, spotlighting driving bass lines, dirty guitar riffs, and energetic live shows. The Slow Reel currently cites influences as diverse as The Band and The Dead Weather, and has been described as "jubilant" and "a classic band." After releasing Governor's Daughter in June 2011, the band started touring and recording their 3rd album. .... The Slow Reel has been featured on NoDepression.com, CBS, and WYEP. .... www.facebook.com/theslowreel http://theslowreel.bandcamp.com/ http://www.reverbnation.com/theslowreel .... -

You don't have to choose between high art and low, noble intention and fun,
East Coast elitism and Midwestern honesty. We live in
Pittsburgh...where ambiguity and bipolar instincts thrive! Where we
like our art delivered with two fists: brains and brawn, smart and
joyous, tawdry and elegant. Pierogies AND hot sauce. Mano a mano,
friends, Squonk will bring home the chaos and the beauty of
music in "Mayhem and Majesty" - our 10th show to premiere in our
hometown of Pittsburgh!
