"This debut CD from Ithaca based foursome The Small Kings brings to mind the hip groove of compatriot Donna the Buffalo. The rootsy melodies and harmonies... are sweet and joyful." --Mark Bialczak, Syracuse Post-Standard
You don't have to live in Ithaca to grab a copy of our new CD, EATING ORANGES AFTER DARK.
History of the Small Kings:
From far and wide, Marty did walk. From sea ship to truckers cab to freight train yard gravel pile sleeping accommodations, he did carry his guitar. From his point of view the world owed him nothing and gave him everything. Even an extremely loyal back-up band that waited and waited, though in vain, for his impending return, and thus as to be expected of dreams deferred, he failed to return one too many times, and thus failed to make the gig, again. and again... and thus, the extremely loyal back-up band once known as The Unleavened Experience, and another once known as Pavlov's Kittens, and another once known as The Abdominal Snowpersons, tired of the perpetual distrophy of their lead singer, fired him, cold turkey. They returned semi-triumphantly as the wee rulers of their domain, the little people who like their homes to be homes, as the guys that make music because it is music, now known as The Small Kings.
First of, Mike, thanks for the copy of your album. Wow! What a great and positive surprise. I got it in the mail today and, like always with an album I haven't heard yet, I didn't quite know what to expect. But, man, Kathy and I enjoyed it throughly. Very well done, very professional. Beautiful voice, Jeff! Beautiful backups, too. A little bit of CSN, a little bit of Donna the Buffalo, a little bit of Beatles, a little bit of indy rock. You guys are Ithaca's best kept secret. Anyway, just wanted to drop you these lines from the Netherlands. I hope you're still rocking out there. Thanks again, Mike!
Sorry i've missed it all the past week guys. Played it safe on the crappy weather on Tuesday's release and had the flu, thus missed the ABC show. don't worry guys, not hatin'. catch you soon. Peace!
