Sounds Like
Very difficult to pigeon hole but this lot have been mentioned after we..ve played gigs: Any Trouble; Squeeze; Beautiful South; Clive Gregson & Christine Collister; David Wilcox; Mary Chapin Carpenter - all in all a very eclectic mix!
The Smiling Strangers were formed in 2004 by songwriter Jeff Reynolds. Jeff had played in bands and appeared at both the Edinburgh Fringe and the Greenbelt Arts Festival but had a break from music before writing a batch of new songs that were meant to be a solo project but which quickly developed into The Smiling Strangers.
The band features Jeff on bass and guitars, Rue Randall on guitars and vocals, Lucy Winkett on guitar and vocals, Peter Moreton on piano and vocals and Pete Powers on drums.
The band primarily write and perform ..catchy and hook filled.. three minute pop songs but also include many different styles and types of music in their eclectic live set. They also appear as 2, 3, 4 piece doing gigs acoustically and in a stripped down version of their line up and songs. They are very flexible in their approach to live performance and have appeared in diverse places such as HMP Stafford and St. Paul..s Cathedral.

The Kittiwakes - CD Launch - Clerkenwell 22nd June
Leigh-on-Sea 3-piece, The Kittiwakes, celebrate the release of their Midwich Records debut, ‘Lofoten Calling’, a collection of original folk songs written about the people, landscape, folklore and history of the Lofoten Islands above the Arctic Circle and influenced by the traditional music of Norway and the British Isles.
'The Kittiwakes craft timeless and magical acoustically dappled folk treats - gentle and alluring ostensibly Gaelic in sound texture and gorgeously flighty braided as they are by corteges of mandolins, accordions and violins.' [LOSING TODAY]
'The Kittiwakes (rissa tridactyla): delicious, intriguing and evocative music, beautifully played and sung by this talented trio. Recommended to twitchers and lovers of folk music alike' [LEIGH FOLK FESTIVAL]

"At last a follow up to Janette Mason's sparkling debut as leader. Alien Left Hand ....was well worth the wait…” Production **** Performance**** -- BBC Music Magazine
“…an album fizzing with fresh ideas and delights, an exhilarating musical journey .. with brilliantly original writing and inspired playing…” -- Helen Mayhew
"Every track from the rhythmic ‘NY Cab Ride’ and restless ‘4 Wheel Drive’ to the brooding ‘Mae’s Song’ has a terrific hook but it’s the way Mason switches tempo and moods that makes ALH great fun. " -- Diva Magazine
