The Smoking Cabinet returns once more to the Curzon Soho with a truly exotic array of films. Embracing the joie de vivre of modernist cabaret and burlesque, The Smoking Cabinet this year selects a special programme inspired by Coney Island and the 1930’s musical and razzle dazzle showgirls.
Occasionally risque, seductive and sultry, The Smoking Cabinet presents a provocative collection of shorts, classic cabaret, inspiring talks and live performance.
For this year’s opening night The Smoking Cabinet have teamed up with Midnight Movies to offer something a little different; live performance and music in the bar followed by a special screening of E.A. Dupont’s Piccadilly (1928) featuring Anna May Wong. PLUS a complimentary drink for all guests!
Our shorts programmes this year give a wink to "the most magnificent spectacle of the world's mad hunt for pleasure"- CONEY ISLAND, featuring SANDOW THE MUSCLE MAN and a host of other entertainers, including BOXING CATS!
We shall bring to you dazzling performances from decorated dancers of yesteryear, and a filmic variety show including trad jazz bands and music hall stars.
