Joseph S. Pulver, Sr. is the acclaimed author of the Lovecraftian novel Nightmare’s Disciple and the author of many short stories that have appeared in magazines and anthologies. He has received several Honorable Mentions in Datlow’s and Windling’s The Year’s Best Fantasy and Horror. -- The dark, forbidding alleys of ruined cityscapes; the hopeless lives of brutalized whores, amoral hit-men, and vengeful-victims of violence—these are the landscapes and characters that fill the stories, poems, and prose-poems of Joseph S. Pulver, Sr. in his first collection. And yet, there is a strange and intoxicating beauty to Pulver’s creations, for they transport the reader out of the mundane and into the unearthly by the effortless stroke of a dazzling metaphor. Many of Pulver’s stories are innovative riffs on the enigmatic mythology of The King In Yellow, pregnant with the demonic witchery of the original. With this collection, Pulver places himself in the forefront of contemporary fantasy and horror literature. Available from Hippocampus Press. Check out Joe’s MySpace pages.

‘The King in Yellow’ by The Society of the Yellow Sign was released by Rainfall Records on Monday 8th August 2007. It was conceived and produced by Steve Lines and features music and spoken word pieces inspired by the ‘King in Yellow’ mythos created by Robert W. Chambers and expanded upon by such writers as H. P. Lovecraft, Lin Carter, James Blish, Karl Edward Wagner, Joseph S. Pulver Sr. and others. The album follows the same format as the earlier Rainfall release, ‘Strange Aeons’ (which was a tribute to the Cthulhu Mythos of H. P. Lovecraft) and features many of the same writers and musicians. Copies of both CDs are still available via the Rainfall Records & Books website and ebay.
“We had been speaking for some time in a dull monotonous strain before I realised that we were discussing ‘The King In Yellow’. Oh the sin of writing such words – words which are as clear as crystal, limpid and musical as bubbling springs, words which sparkle and glow like the poisoned diamonds of the Medicis! Oh the wickedness, the hopeless damnation of a soul who could fascinate and paralyse human creatures with such words – words understood by the ignorant and the wise alike, words which are more precious than jewels, more soothing than music, more awful than death!”

O Never say never, Somethings bound to come again Into the light ov day, Everythings play My mind displaced ( I need some space ) Time says wait, but I must go Casting a shadow, A new dawn of the dead Breaking the wind into the clearing All things must die, your welted flowers fertilize Dawn over desolation, For unsatisfyed desires is masterbaition Inspiration, I need a new thrill, My will for stability in change Seasonal shift, Catch the drift The Child is the seed to recycle what you belive The corpse the fear that you feed Love heals the hope that you keep Tears that reclaims the sea, Ov moon light reflection past Ov the sunlight gazing unto the world for evermore...
