Originally from Chicago, Pete Pagonis grew up playing drums in rock bands. Raised on a big dose of the Beatles, Led Zeppelin and Frank Sinatra formed Pete's early influences. Relocating to California Pagonis continued playing in bands as a drummer. After a long stint with the local band mrs. god, Pete played with former eels bass player Tommy Walter in both Tely and Metromax. Walter later released a record under the name Abandoned Pools which had two co-writes with Pagonis that continue to get placement in TV and film. Pete also has played with Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine and Jack Lee. After a tour fell through playing drums for Brendan Benson of the Raconteurs. Pete started to reassess. He occasionally plays drums on friends recording including some old school rock with friend Doug Painter. Now on his own, Pagonis is putting out music as the Soft Patches. The mix of odd time signatures and simple melodies are both attributed to his drumming background and love of "simple lines intertwining" to quote Nigel.
Dreamy, lush and sometimes melancholic are all words that have been used to describe the Soft Patches. I'm just trying to find as much of my own musical voice as possible. Everyone sounds like someone to some extent. .
