Finding a sound is never easy. Developing one that possesses as much depth and sincerity as that captured by Sonnier Brothers Band is impossible. It can either occur naturally, the result of a group of individually gifted musicians finally finding their spot in the musical universe, or it doesn't occur at all. It was the summer of 1995 when Dane Sonnier (Galactic Cowboys-Geffen/DGC) and brother Len Sonnier (Atomic Opera-Giant) joined together to begin writing and performing music they could call their own. Each had already achieved success on a national level. But the need for some return to the brothers' southern Louisiana roots was keenly felt before either would willingly re-enter the musical fray. After writing and performing as an acoustic duo in Texas and Louisiana for some time, the brothers were ready to take the next step and form a band. As important to this process as finding capable musicians, however, was finding compatible spirits. And with several periods of trial and error the stage has been set. Guitarists Jackie Hibbard and Dustin Faigen came from a variety of musical pasts. But as each piece of the puzzle came together, it became clear to everyone involved that something very special was taking shape. The band quickly began opening shows for regional and national touring acts, including K's Choice, Breedlove, Vallejo, the Fabulous Thunderbirds, the Allman Brothers Band, the Ian Moore Band, Chris Duarte, the Marshall Tucker Band, Omar & the Howlers, King's X, Mark May and the Agitators, Aerosmith, John Mellencamp and Doyle Bramhall II, and more recently, the Arc Angels . For, despite the layers, despite the depth and diversity, there is something singularly, monolithically moving about the space created by the Sonnier Brothers Band's music: harmonies atop huge grooves, driven by guitars in a decidedly tasty stew of rock and soul influences. More road work lies ahead, building upon the twin towers of an ever growing fan-base and mounting critical praise alike.
"Give this band a platform and watch them crush the current wave of 'earnest' rock flat." - Kerrang!
"Live, the band is a powerful, professional unit… willingly upbeat with a melody-driven recipe that incorporates the more time-tested elements…" - the Houston Press
"The fans who gather for a Sonnier Brothers Band show are the ones who get to sample the most satisfying dish of all." - Houston Sidewalk.
Three guitarists, three frontmen and a rock behind the kit. Songs from heaven and not one ounce of wasted muscle in sight. This is the real deal.
