Comprising of producer,Lunatik (Rishaad Khan),and emcee/producer,Zenith (Callan Grecia), The Soul Academy is fast creating waves in the Hip Hop scene with their versatile yet unmistakable sound. Having worked their way up to being one of the most highly regarded sounds in Durban, the duo have begun to extend their reach overseas, hopefully acheiving the same effect.
Growing up together from a young age,the duo developed the same drive and passion for hip hop. Because they spent most of their time together, they shared the uncanny ability of two friends to understand which direction to move in and also shared the same musical taste. It was through listening to the likes of Nas and Eminem as youngsters, that the duo first became interested in the hip hop movement which lead to the formation of The Soul Academy. Even though they are still young, the sounds created by The Soul Academy are timeless and well crafted, because in an age where quantity rules out quality,The Soul Academy are here to show their generation that quality is what matters.
Originally influenced by the likes of greats such as Dr. Dre,the duo eventually began to broaden their choices, listening to J Dilla,Black Milk and Madlib to name a few. As their collection grew, so did the sounds they created. Now heavy into the soulful and experimental Detroit sound movement, the duo have established where and how their sound is categorised.
Working locally with artists such as The Young Mindz Crew,Black M.O.S.S,HC and Explicit, the duo have been well recieved by their home city,Durban, and the rest of South Africa. They have also worked internationally with the likes of P Casso of the AOK Collective, Cambatta & Torae from New York. There are also projects in the pipeline but those are yet to be awaited.
For too long,Hip Hop has needed young ambassadors to carry the flame and keep it burning with even greater intensity. This is what The Soul Academy is here to do...
