The Amsterdam based band The Soul Prophets are heavily inspired by old soul records: "We're not consciously trying to imitate bands from the past. There's an old school feel to the Soul Prophets, but we're by no means some kind of revivalist movement. When we play we are looking to find what makes us feel good!"
The debut E.P. Greed, recorded and released in april 2009, fuses southern soul with minimalist deep funk in the vein of Stax, The Meters and James Brown. The record sounds bottom-heavy and melodic at the same time.
In a time that values overproduced slickness over human grit, The Soul Prophets are like a breath of fresh air.
