Greetings Luther Tucker Tribute Page, Respect To You !!!!!!! I Give Thanks For Reaching Out, Making The Connection And The Friendship !!!!!!! Blessed Love
It was on this day, June 18th, in 1993 that Luther Tucker passed on from an unexpected heart attack but his legend lives on thur his recordings and the stories we share in remembrance.
For me he was just the shy and quiet guy who lived on the other side of the back yard fence out on the Avenues who showed up on Sundays for a friendly neighborhood jam where I learned from others of his legendary status.
Tuck, in your honor today I have made the Home page on yahoo group Jack's BAY AREA BLUES CLUES a dedication to your memory.
Victor, Thanks for this page and for helping to keep Tuck alive on the net. Many will discover how important Luther's contribution to blues music was thru it and those who knew him get a chance to pause and remember the joy.

I miss those days long past when Tucker was my over the backyard fence neighbor on the Avenues in SF and would show up for our neighborhood house jams on Sunday mornings. That sweet legend made a bunch of amateurs feel just like pros.

Here's a cut and paste of the announcement from the Bluesville subscriber list which came out today (the 21st) about birth dates on January 20:
"The great Chicago Blues guitarist Luther Tucker was born on this day, January 20, in 1936 in Memphis, TN. Tucker was born in Memphis but re-located to Chicago with his family at age 7. His father was a carpenter and built Luther his first guitar. His mother was a pianist who introduced her son to Big Bill Broonzy and Robert Jr. Lockwood, who both gave the young Luther guitar lessons. Tucker had the highest respect and admiration for Lockwood his entire life. Luther played with Little Walter for 7 years and is on many of Walter`s classic sides. He also recorded with Otis Rush, Robben Ford, Sonny Boy Williamson 2, Jimmy Rogers, Snookey Prior, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Elvin Bishop, and James Cotton. In the 60s, Tucker was a member of Cotton`s band and recorded and toured extensively with the harp maestro. Tucker moved to Marin County, CA in 1973 and formed The Luther Tucker Band and played area clubs untill his death in 1993. Luther Tucker was a soft-spoken, even shy individual who was one of the uncredited founders of the post-war Chicago Blues style. As time unfolds and more is written on the history of Chicago Blues, perhaps Tucker will get the recognition he deserves. Check out Tucker on any of James Cotton`s 60s releases such as "Late Night Blues" or "Pure Cotton", and "Cotton In Your Ears" or Cotton`s later releases and re-issues like "Midnight Creeper", "Live at Antones" or "Mighty Long Time". Be sure to check out The Luther Tucker Band on "Sad Hours" on Antone`s or 'Luther Tucker and TheFord Brothers Blues Band" on Blue Rock`it."
Thanks for the add (and thanks for doing this tribute page). I was privileged to meet Luther when my band opened some shows for James Cotton, back in the day. What a nice man and INCREDIBLE guitarist. Totally original blues style - no one, to this day, sounds like Luther Tucker. He's definitely missed.
I'm glad to see this page. I got to play with Luther down in Santa Barbara a number of times and I saw him in San Francisco with Elvin Bishop.
He was a monster player!
He was a nice guy too. Long live his memory!
