The South Carolina Broadcasters are a traditional music duo based in Charleston, S.C. Their vocals duets, accompanied by various combinations of fiddle, guitar, and banjo, evoke the musical styles of the 1920’s, 30’s, and 40’s when this music was popularized by groups such as the Carter Family, Delmore Brothers, Louvin Brothers, and Stanley Brothers. The South Carolina Broadcasters have also been influenced by traditional cajun music, especially the Balfa Brothers, and often include cajun fiddle tunes and songs (sung in French) in their shows. In addition to performing in clubs and at festivals, The South Carolina Broadcasters have given concert/lecture presentations on music during the Civil War and the early history of American traditional music.
Ivy S. Lindley (fiddle, banjo, guitar, vocal) and David Sheppard (guitar, vocal) formed The South Carolina Broadcasters in 2007 to perform and promote the traditional, old-time string music of the Southeast. Their straighforward approach garners new fans wherever they play and they are quickly becoming one of the premier old-time duos performing today.
