Med støvelen godt planta på Trøndersk jord, slipper The South sitt debutalbum 16. mars på MBN, i godt selskap med mange av Norges mestselgende artister. Veien har vært kort men lang for bandet, som i løpet av sine fem første konserter i 2007 allerede hadde rukket å spille for over 10.000 mennesker. Bandet varmet i 2007 blant annet opp for britiske Travis på Sentrum Scene i Oslo og i Dødens Dal i Trondheim under UKA. Bandet har også rukket å gjeste endel festivaler, som Pstereo, Storåsfestivalen og Brønnøysund Rootsfestival. The South har allerede hatt flere låter spillelistet på Norsk Rikskringkasting, med låtene “Nothing Scares Me Now”, “A Place to Start” og “All on Purpose” på henholdsvis P1 og P3.
Bandet har sitt opphav i vokalist og gitarist Alexander Pettersen, som i slutten av 2006 begynte å skrive materiale til et soloprosjekt mens han turnerte med Marthe Valle. Etablerte musikere fra andre Trondheimsband fant låttmaterialet spennende og ville hjelpe til på veien. Etter hvert ble livet på landeveien et såpass godt avbrekk fra gårdsdrift og husbygging at medlemmene slo rot i bandet. Forkjærligheten til artister som Steve Earle, Bruce Springsteen og Ryan Adams hadde ført dem sammen, og nå er det endelig tid for debutplata!
”A place to start” er spilt inn i Brygga Studio, mikset av Morten Stendahl i Redroom Studio og mastret av Bob Katz, en legende innenfor mastring som er bosatt i Florida, og som blant annet stod bak mastringen av Motorpsycho..s ”Little Lucid Moments”.
