The Spares make twangy, bluesy, roots music—call it alt-country or Americana. The Chicago duo writes and sings about characters in hard places, like a nine-to-five company man who quits his job in search of meaning ("Mexico") or a marriage in peril ("Waiting for the Smoke to Clear"), whose stories hint at love and truth in ways that the characters themselves don't always recognize. Their lyrics are thoughtful and honest, just as their acoustic music is raw, beautiful, and compelling.
You guys should venture out to Reno ;o) I was singing "Allentown" to Hank tonight and thought, that's the mark of a good song...one that you can sing your child to sleep with.
I miss hearing you guys! You were so good when you came to see us in Mississippi at the Kononia Coffee house! I've got a rough version of a new instrumental song I recorded. Come have a listen! =)
Want to come hang with a bunch of really creative people ? We started a new community and it's hoppin already, called Artist Isles, come check it out, for artists and listeners, music lovers of all kinds. Hope to see you. It's a lot less detached than these social networking sites if you want to get to know people for real.
