Shane Hazleton is Special Guest, a creator/inventor working in the re-territorialization of psychedelia in music and new media. The antiquated and often cheesy sensory masturbations have molded over enough. Slicing away this bacterial and cultural waist from abstract and phenomenologically "trippy" time based media and creating new forms that capture the guileless zeal and intent of the original artifacts is a core intention of his. Moreso it is his goal to extend the affect of such experiences through investigations into new technologies and languages for synchronized media. It is his hypothesis that when the threshold is passed, when the level of integration between the sensory media is absolute and the presentation environment is ultimately immersive, that a qualitatively different experience can emerge. Something transcendental... which may just be the same as "actually trippy". These intentions turn his focus towards improvisational forms, which decentralize precise and scripted unfoldings from the score or record into the space and those that occupy/define it. These motivations lend themselves to the native cultural practices and leftovers from the original trippers, the evolution of hippies, ravers/burners (those who attened Burning Man) who are attempting to define their own take on psychedelia through electronic music and an array of loosely synchronized yet sometimes epic in scale displays of light and immense sound systems. These objectives breed the need to create new tools for live
improvisational electronic music and media which Shane is working on while at Cal Arts on his MFA. He holds a BFA in Music: Interdisciplinary Computing and the Arts from UCSD where he graduated top of his class. His Integrated Media focus extends his work in music to the other forms of his interest outside music. The Special Guest's music is complex, event dense, playful, and considered. He is exploring the possibilities of a more interesting style while adopting the language of more popular electronic music forms. He is interested in having an audience and maintaining the ability to frame his work within the rave/club scene which offers powerful outlets. He would like to master a music that is accessible on the macro, yet offers something to guide moment to
moment in the micro.
omg, best documentary ever! next to come "the adventure inside a burrito" ::what Shane will do to expose the conspiracy behind the "secret sauce" within the burrito::
