We're a rootin'-tootin', high-fallutin', non-pollutin', rip-roarin', shiv-shavin', new-fangled, old time, bona fide, good time, string band! Steven and Jimbo have been pickin' and grinnin' together since 1997 and have been blazing trails and entertaining folks with their brand of string band music ever since. People often ask us, "Are you a Bluegrass band?" No, not really, but we do play some Bluegrass songs. Then they ask, "Are you a folk band?" Um....well, kinda-sorta (it is the music of the people after all), but this ain't nothin' like Peter, Paul and Mary or the Kingston Trio.
Allow us to explain in the simplest terms possible; as a string band, we tend to stagger and swerve with reckless abandon to the left and right of traditional American music. We're what we like to call a new-fangled, old timey string band. Banjos & fiddles & singing; oh my! Not only do we play breakdowns and hoe downs, but we manage to throw in original numbers, songs from different genres and from different parts of the world. We draw from a deep well of material because it better represents our diversity, dynamic, and aesthetic.
We're stopping thru Sac twice on our West coast tour! Fri. Dec. 4th at Old Ironsides and Thursday, Dec. 10th at Fox and Goose! Please come out and support and help spread the love!! Happy Thanksgiving. I give thanks for YOU! xoxo - Astra

v "Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)
"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff
