THE SPIROPHONE SET ON MYSPACE.COM

The Mixers formed in 1980 when 15-year-old singer-songwriter-guitarists Daniel Vallely and Ulric Kennedy replaced departing lead guitarist Jim Bell in a group comprising Grant Morrison (rhythm guitar) and Ron Bookless (bass). Eventually joined by Mikel Angus (drums), the band adopted a name from Anthony Burgess' A Clockwork Orange and set about creating melodic pop which drew heavily on 60s influences cross-fertilised with the supercharged delivery of the punk era.

The band played a succession of gigs around Glasgow, finding kindred spirits among the London-based New Psychedelia crowd who likened their demos to "The Hollies on speed".
In 1984, by which time the band had effectively split up, two Vallely tracks (recorded at the Arches, Glasgow) - Love Hurts and Never Find Time - made it onto Daniel Treacy's legendary Wha-am! compilation All For Art and Art For All, later re-surfacing as a 7" on Vinyl Japan in the 1990s.
Look out for Ron's bassline, Ulric's solo and Dan and Ulric's screams on the B-side, LOVE HURTS, in particular.

There was a reunion album.... It was never finished, but lots of tracks exist in some form and may be posted later if the world needs a colourbomb of sound sparkles like the psychedelic masterpiece it would have been...

Their first demos (recorded at CaVa Studios back in the olden times) have been replaced now with some very young Circles indeed.

Hello there.

Thanks for the kind words about my Blog/review.

As must be obvious, 'All For Art...' is one of the most important and deeply cherished albums in my lifetime. It literally changed my views and attitudes towards music....all for the better.

I wish you guys had made more records...if you ever feel like posting the demos you speak of on your Myspace Player, please let us know.

It may seem a childish/girly thing to say, but I remain a true fan.
Take care,
Gordon c/o ~TEC~

Just giving updates to the fans of our music. We currently only have live recordings from a year ago on our page. A lot has happend to us in that year. We lost our orginal drummer since he moved from Louisiana to Washington State, found a fantastic fill in drummer as well as a tenor sax and pianist, we played live for the first time on the radio, and we are currently working a deal with Orleans Records to record our first professional E.P. or maybe even album. Even though the recordings are live, some people love them and if you get the chance to stop by the page, we would love to hear more input from people. The fans are the ones that motivate us the most.

We hope to hear from you soon and enjoy your summer! Peace & Love.

Wow! The Mixers. Thanks for adding me. You've been a mystery to me for so many years. I actually wrote to Whaam! Records in the mid '80s asking for more info. about you but they said they didn't have any!!? 'Never Find Time' and 'Love Hurts' are two superb jangling pop blasts of fresh air and should have blown the crappy eighties Top 40 away. Would love to hear the unreleased album. Have a great week.

Hello -- hope you are well! lovelovelovelove your music!!!

Please vote a "10" for me on the Saatchi Showdown this week. I would greatly appreciate this as I was very closeto top and then my votes were destroyed by computer hackers....they may still be hacking away but i'm hoping there still may be a chance.....so every vote means a lot. Here is a direct link and my image.
