The Local Sports Edge with Joel Oriend and Dan Yankees on V98.3…check us out! The show airs every Sunday morning from 11 am until we stop talking...sometimes one-ish, sometimes later. Each week we feature sports personalities of local interest, national sports figures, contests, trivia, and much more! In addition, throughout the show you can hear the Sports Edge Local Scoreboard with Dan Yankees. You don’t have to just sit and listen, though! Now for a little bit of history…
WE’RE BACK!!! Beginning in 2001 and running through 2003, Mickey the Southern Tier Sports Princess and I had a highly rated, highly entertaining sports show here in the Southern Tier of New York. We didn’t necessarily start off with a huge fan base, but our audience grew weekly as people tuned in to see what we had planned. Our interviews of local sports interest included (but were definitely not limited to) Prattsburgh’s Coach Jim Burke, Hornell Football Coach/Athletic Director Gene Mastin, Bath Haverling Football Coach Wayne Carroll, and Chris Metcalf, the Sports Editor of the Livingston County News. In addition, we chatted with national sports personalities such as Syracuse University’s Coach Jim Boeheim, Rochester native and NFL player Roland Williams, former UNLV Basketball Coach Jerry Tarkanian, Oakland Raiders’ Assistant Coach Chris Griswold (a Hornell native), New York Giants’ Assistant Coach Mike Wauffle (also a Hornell native), and CBS Sports Commentator Greg Gumbel. Sprinkled in were some unexpected guests as well, including Jay the Blind Movie Critic, the author of How to be a Golddigger, and even David Letterman! Added to this great mix were many opportunities for audience participation through contests such as a field goal kicking contest for Buffalo Bills tickets, a foul shooting contest (I took on a 10 year old for this one), a college softball pitcher successfully striking me out in the radio station’s parking lot, and the famous “who can book the best guest?” contest. All of these ingredients combined to make our show a staple in households each week. Our audience eagerly tuned in to see what was going to happen this week. Not only were our guests the Southern Tier’s biggest sports fans, but our audience also included many people who just loved the entertaining radio we produced each week!
However, just like we see so often when we see great teammates in the sports world, radio management sometimes splits up strong teams. In 2003, we were made to go our separate ways. In our latest show, The Local Sports Edge, we are determined to broadcast an even bigger, better, more entertaining radio show! This is a show that is sure to be replicated, but will never be duplicated. Tune in this Sunday – you’ll see what it’s like to be on the EDGE with Joel and Mickey!!!

Joel Heads held High Bath had a Great season nothing can take away thier Class B Section 5 Title. They are our Champs no matter what Steve Big Dawg Rogers
HEY Joel The dream continues as Bath moves one step closer to a State Title no matter what happens they are Champs, I am so Happy for my friends the Carroll family and the whole Bath football team man they are playing great!!!!!!!!!! I am also happy that you are part of it too and as always thanks for letting me be part of the show. We were able to watch the game after the lifting meet saturday. I will listen saturday after work.
