The Sport are a new band from Stoke-on-Trent who are proud to be in possession of a bunch of massive songs that inspire singing and dancing in everyone who hears them. So far so Good! But here’s the twist, behind the anthemic exterior lies lyrically excellent front man Nic Andrews whose self-parodying lyrics in songs such as Lightweight are a sheer joy. Marrying melodies effortlessly with lines about being ‘’first on the floor being stamped on more than anyone else in the fray’’ are the work of no mere footie hooligan with a microphone. The Sport connect with anyone who has the eyes and ears to see and hear a great band at work. If you’re not into the idea of a northern guitar band making great bloody tunes then there’s nothing for you to see here so move along. Meanwhile let the rest of us party with The Sport.
