In 1998 here lay a vacant lot and there lay three vacant houses and herein lay a great idea. The land was prime yet undeveloped and the houses were set to be demolished so the local community college could expand their parking lot. Our founders set out to save these houses by picking them up, bringing them here, and building a restaurant incorporating them. After many months of hard work their dreams became reality and The Spot was born May 1998. It was originally named The Village at Mile Zero hence the name written on the curb as you enter the parking lot through our main entrance. The story is that if you are to measure from the curb to the first mile marker on Interstate 45, this is exactly one mile. Therefore, we are mile zero. Many say this is the end, however we like to think of it as the beginning. We changed our name to The Spot prior to opening yet after the work on the curb had been completed. In May 2002, The Spot was purchased by local resident and B.O.I. (Born on Island) Dennis Byrd. This was his first and only job in the restaurant business and he began here when we originally opened. He worked his way up from cashier to cook, dishwasher to delivery boy, learned the ropes of the restaurant business and accomplished his dream of opening his own restaurant by purchasing the only restaurant he ever worked in. You’ll still see him here today taking your order, cooking your food, cleaning tables or giving stuffed animals to crying babies. Please relax, enjoy the wonderful view, excellent food and allow us to impress you. Dennis is always on site so stop him and let him know what you think! He is also available 24/7 at dbyrd@thespotgalveston.com

In 1998 when I took my first job in the restaurant industry, it was here at The Spot. I knew immediately, this is what I wanted to do. College at L.S.U. was great but, I really looked forward to weekends and holidays so I could come home and work. I loved making people happy then as much as I do today. In May 2002 at the age of 22 and finished with college, the incredible opportunity of purchasing The Spot was reality. We focus on the same basic principals today that I believe make any business successful. Keep it simple! We operate a clean restaurant, we serve our hot food hot and our cold food cold, and most importantly we find our ultimate success in making our guests smile. We have a growing team of outstanding employees so it's only fair to use "our" and "we" because without them none of this would be possible. This page is a great mix of my personal life as well as promotion of The Spot, hope you enjoy what you see and visit me on your next trip to beautiful Galveston Island.

I absolutely love watching the webcam....but I find it so amazing that such a hotspot closes sooooo early. Here in Ohio..... places such as this (albeit not oceanfront :( ) do not close till 2:30 AM I still love watching your live entertainment and ocean views (something we do not have here in Ohio)
Dennis, I wanted to thank you personally for the delicious food you sent over to our Grandma's while we go thru this difficult time. It just shows how big your heart is and what a great guy you are! So from the entire ALCOCER family we sincerely say THANK YOU and may GOD continue to bless you......... Raul Jr. & Elvia Alcocer
Texas beaches need your help. Last week state Rep. Wayne Christian pulled a sly move in the legislature and created an exception to the Texas Open Beaches Act that allows him and his neighbors on Bolivar Peninsula to build houses on the PUBLIC BEACH.
This is bad news.
We have a campaign to convince Texas Governor Rick Perry to veto this bad bill.
This is very simple and your email could make the difference.
Hey Dennis! I was wondering your hours for the drip cause when I get off from my job at FishTales tonight I will bring you good paying customers! So all I was wondering what's your prices and your hours? See you tonight! Love Always! Priscilla Collins. Xoxo Mauh!
