The Spruce Root Band formed as any good story does...with a beginning. Mike Conley, Jack Mantel and Peter Bauer all grew up in Springfield, Oregon and attended the same high school. Peter and Jack honed their music talents playing the clarinet and trumpet, respectively, while Mike took up the violin, sang in the choir and found success in stage acting. After more than ten years as friends, mutual interests in poetry, songwriting and melodies sparked the desire to make music together. Mike and Peter began playing open-mic shows where they could, and soon after Jack joined. Today, Mike displays his soulful voice and plays guitar while Peter and Jack keep time on the drums and bass guitar. After many name changes and countless glasses of Jack and Coke, The Spruce Root Band has formed. Enjoy
