Nididi Onukwulu and Jillian Lebeck, performers at this years Jazz Festival in Vancouver, share their stories and music with host Pam Southwell.
About Ndidi
Imagine a voice that sings the blues like a street-wise angel: smoky, nuanced, filled with feeling. A voice equally at home with jazz and soul, that shifts from folk and chanson to country, cabaret and elsewhere with ease. A sweet, strong voice suited to extreme emotions. A voice you can’t stop listening to. Now picture a dark-haired woman in satin and tulle, dancing fast in red patent heels. A woman inspired by love and loss, by poetry, gravestones and eavesdropped conversations. A complex, enigmatic woman of Nigerian/German descent who was born and raised in British Columbia, Canada, watching grizzly bears roam - and escaping, when she could, into fantasy.

The Storytelling Show is a program about women’s storytelling in all its variations: from oral storytelling to story-readings to spoken word performances. The stories are told mainly by their authors, and occasionally by the host. The show provides a venue for work ranging from women’s novels, short stories, and prose poems, to women’s mythology, to stories about real people who live through experiences they want to give voice to.
The show features women’s voices as a way to encourage women to voice themselves more widely. It provides a place where First Nations women, women of colour, and women’s voices that differ from the mainstream can be aired. It also offers a place where local emerging women authors can read their work.
You can hear us every Sunday at 9pm on 102.7 FM in the Vancouver area, also available on cable FM (check your cable provider listings for frequency) and StarChoice satellite channel 845. Also, powered by free software and volunteers, Vancouver Coop Radio is live on the Internet.
