Written by: Xolie Morra, Alex Elena & Adam Zimmon of the Ruby Friedman Orchestra Thank you for all of your support “The Strange Kind”
Bio:
Emerging from the basements of Seattle’s burgeoning indie music scene, Xolie Morra and her band The Strange Kind are staking their claim as the west’s newest and freshest set of talent, taste, drive and of course unforgettable songs.
Having shared the stage with classic headlining acts like Styx and contemporary headliners like Jessica Simpson, Xolie Morra has already seen her share of the spotlight. But, she insists that her most notable and profound experience to date has been the opportunity to perform at the 2010 Lilith Fair, thanks to OURSTAGE.com. Since Lilith Xolie has also won many contests onourstage including the “Shout It Out” with Hanson Competition and the Intel Superstar’s Rock Competition in 2010. In 2011 She placed 1st in the Intel Superstar’s Country, Pop and Singersongwriter competitions and has been staking her claim on the ourstage charts for months.
Look for The Strange Kind on ITUNES, ZUNE, Amazon Music, myspace, facebook, OurStage and pass it on.
About the Band:
Singer/Songwriter Xolie Morra Cogley grew up in Campbell/Monterey, CA. and gained notoriety performing all over the bay area. In 2002 she volunteered for an organization called Breast Fest Inc., founded by Country/Blues singer/songwriter Rusti Love of Tulsa OK. While on tour with the band NO Doubt, promoting Breast Cancer Awareness for BFI, Xolie discovered a love for Seattle WA and felt a need to return soon after the tour ended.
The Strange Kind was formed as a solo project, accompanied by many of Xolie’s friends, such as Zoran Macesic (Umbrella Minds), Dru Decaro, Josh Nyback (Colbie Caillat), Riley Geare, Chris Jordan, Alex Elena (Ruby Friedman Orchestra, Alice Smith, Avril Lavigne) and Mike Baker (Colbie Caillat, Orianti, Alex Band).
In 2012 It was made official when the band was joined by a new, permanent lineup in Seattle WA. Maxmillion Browne (Guitar), Brett Hutchinson (Drums) & Christian LieBig (Bass)
The Strange Kind has a very unique sound, blending classic rock sass and honest modern melodic style, reminiscent of the Pretenders, Tom Petty, as mind blowing and breath taking as Cold Play with a country kick in the pants.
People are instantly taken by Morra’s captivating stage presence and melodic range. And from the day she hit the scene and played her first show, it wasn’t long before there was a buzz. Xolie has been described as a cross between Chrissy Hynde and Lindsey Buckingham. Her unique ability to manipulate her voice in any direction has helped her develop a sound all her own, incorporating instrumentation devised purely from the power of the human voice (IE a rather impressive Mouth Trumpet impression, the Saw and other such sound effects).
The upcoming EP, mixes Xolie Morra’s edgy vocals and moving melodic compositions with Intense Epic Rock production in it’s purest form to concoct a record boiling over with ultra-catchy gems that move the soul. But it isn’t just the sound that gets attention, it’s the message. Xolie is a unique artist because she has something not many artists have. Like James Durban from American Idol, Xolie Morra Cogley has Asperger’s Syndrome, a pervasive developmental disorder in the High Functioning range of the Autism Spectrum. She uses the unique abilities aforded to “Aspies” to stand out musically and affords an awkward sensibility to her performances. Currently she is working with Director Brian Felber on the documentary Xolie Morra “In The Spectrum” A Journey Through Autism to the Stars, about her struggle to make it in the music industry as an artist with Autism. Through the film Xolie allows cameras into every aspect of her life. The Good, the not so good and the pits and falls of every day life experienced through the eyes of an artist with a different view of the world.
Xolie is an activist on many levels, raising awarness about Animal rights as well as being an out and proud member of the GLBTI community and an Intersex/GLBT rights activist. Whenever possible Xolie uses her music to try to educate, change the hearts and minds on both sides of the debates to help bridge the divide and bring people together. Her goal in life is to change the world through music and have some fun in the process. Since 2001, Xolie has dedicated a majority of her time to the development of the XoeBean independent Music Team (www.XoeBean.com), a collection of artists, musicians, producers and film makers who work together with the common goal of cross promotion and artist development, Whether writing for other artists or for her own personal projects, there are no limitations in the writing process to try to hide who she is and what she is about. Alone a powerful singer/songwriter, but together as a whole, Xolie Morra & The Strange Kind are a combination set to destroy any sense of standards and expectations in popular music. ©2004-present XoeBean Music. It is with great pleasure to announce the release of my new acoustic album "This Is Home" which is now in selected digital and itunes stores in Belgium, Germany, UK, Canada, USA and Mexico. The main themes of "This Is Home" is of love found, love lost, past and pressent relationships. Have been said that there are a few songs that are reminiscent of my childhood which I hope my boys will be able to see through my eyes.
What makes this album different from it's predecessors is that my guitar and voice were recorded simultaneously and by doing so this enabled us to keep the recordings spontaneous and intimate. Here is the first videoclip from the album. I hope you'll enjoy it and please do share it.
Peace always,
Bai
