Sugarpie & The Candymen represents the Gypsy and Swing sounds of the 40s—from Django to Duke and much more!

We are happy to announce the release of our new CD on the Italian jazz label, IRMA Records. The CD hosts seven original songs with arrangements that recreate the “retro” club atmosphere, featuring lush and sophisticated vocal harmonies as well as the danceable jazz rhythms of Charleston, Swing, Mambo and Boogie-Woogie.

In addition to the CD's original material, the Candymen have cleverly rearranged Pop, Rock and Disco classics in the style of Gypsy and Swing. The CD is diverse, unique and unusually familiar.

Sugarpie's live show pushes the diversity factor even more...

In one you might hear (surprisingly one next to the other) Led Zeppelin, Django Reinhardt, The Beatles, Ella Fitzgerald, Van Halen, Benny Goodman, Guns & Roses, Gene Krupa, Queen or Peggy Lee. (And the late-late night set might even be topped off with some Blues and R&B classics). The show is complete.

The band is led by female vocalist "Sugarpie" Georgia, a super-soprano with an amazingly mature and technically sound voice. In her sparkling red dress and authentic 40s hairdo, she leads the Candymen (Delfini, Podesta', Lupo and Zucchero) through an elegant and spectacular show, both musically and visually.

The band's persuasive live show has helped garner an impressive track record thus far...

This summer the band was invited back (as honorable alumni) to the Ascona Jazz Festival for one week of performances. The re-invitation was in response to the dramatic debut the band made at the 2011 Ascona Festival in which the band's collection of passionate performances earned them the festival's prestigious "Popular Award." This accolade was most proudly accomplished having shared the stage (all week) with some of the most formidable and seasoned swing / jazz artists from the New Orleans' area. After Sugarpie's second year of breathtaking performances, there is word that the band will be invited back for the 2013 Fest. A possible trifecta.

Following Ascona, the band was invited to Berlin for the annual Bergmanstrassen Fest. Here, dozens of bands perform on various stages over a three-day period. Sugarpie & The Candymen was staged as the festival's featured act. Our lead singer, "Sugarpie" Georgia, made the cover of the program booklet! See here__. We are proud of our princess.

Also, notable mention this summer were festival debuts at Summer Jamboree (Senigallia, IT), Piacenza Jazz Festival, Torino Jazz Festival and Locarno Film Festival. For more details, check out out list of "festivals and venues played so far"___.

Meanwhile, the band's first single "Tell Me Boy" has gained airplay on several national italian radio stations (Radio Rai1 and Radio Rai2).
Next week, the band is off on another european tour which is too include the northern territories of Poland, Sweden and France. This will be the band's third time in Poland over the last year and the band's debut in both Sweden and France. And this tour will bring the number of "countries performed in" up to seven and counting. We're excited over this year's prospects.
