Suitcase
Bored of indie boys and Brit School kids? We are. Six-piece band, Suitcase formed in Cardiff earlier this year in response to internet advertisements made by lead singer, Lady M in a plea to bring motown/soul/pop values back to the stage. Chief songwriter, singer and piano-player, Lady M, and drummer, Dave, had been performing low-key gigs around Cardiff as a duo and had decided to reach out to likeminded musicians. Along came, the Suitcase Sisters: Marlene and Sally and Tim M on double bass. Later, Lady M and Dave met Tim W on a disco-dance floor, discovered he had sung the theme-tune to kids’ TV show ‘Bodger and Badger’ and he became the guitarist.
Ever since, we’ve been rehearsing in local studio outlets, developing our pop sensation and eating Jaffa Cakes. Currently working towards gigs in the South Wales area and our debut album, Suitcase are mixing the soulful shimmers of motown and classic pop with a rock-inspired edge. Influenced by the likes of The Clash, Sheryl Crow, Dolly Parton, Ben Folds and Lucky Soul; we are a modern version of the Shangri-Las, crossed with Sara Bareilles and Rilo Kiley; if Debbie Harry and Elton John were band members.

CONVOI EXCEPTIONNEL [Minimalist / Rock / Hip Hop] "Convoi Exceptionnel are a Welsh rock and hiphop duo from the mean streets of Aberystwyth. Despite now living 300 miles apart and armed with only an SM58, a Mac and a twenty pound guitar from Argos they've managed to knock up some tunes for your enjoyment and get played on national radio"
DRAW ME STORIES [Alternative / Folk Rock / Indie] "A dark and raw yet perfectly polished and professional performance that will surely lead to bigger things...No doubt helped along by the fact lead singer Carl Hodgetts has the kind of Ian Curtis/ Paul Banks voice that makes girls go weak at knees!"
VALLEY LINES [Electronica / Dub / Psychedelic] "Valley Lines is the main musical project of Cardiff based electronic producer and sound artist Christian Gates, his musical output shifts from simplistic electro to densely layered electronica, often incorporating sound recordings from the natural environment with complex beats and synthesised noise"
...plus DJ's for a good old dance!

Just to let you know that I am close to confirming an Oxjam Cardiff Chill 2008 gig to take place late next month. It will take the form of an Open Mic night to raise money for Oxjam and will take place in a Cardiff City Centre location (currently being confirmed ;)
I also hope to encourage some local Open Mic nights to help promote Oxjam and raise awareness of the festival and am trying to get the ’OK’ from the council with regard to having a couple of busking events covering the Saturdays during April.
If any bands are interested in playing at the gig or the other opportunities that Oxjam Cardiff Chill 2008 will be offering please drop me an email on Myspace.
