Interests

  • General

breathing, sleeping and breathing briefly interspersed by smoking then more breathing and some sleeping and then some. pleasing myself and being pleased at myself. traits - many and all the best ones. pet hates - arrogance, selfishness, people with egos bigger than their shoe size, bad music (though many would say that's all I listen too - ha - but then I'm right you are wrong you just don't know it yet),ignorant people, bad manners, jeans with crotches by the knees - are you packing atomic bollocks(?), pointless tattoos, pointless piercings, people who talk street why (?), (im)personal strereos especially when the music is cack - wouldn't you just love for once to hear a little Sonic Youth or Dead Kennedy's blurring out for a change, liars, cheats - I am the original grumpy old man
  • Music

From a humble beginning - first record bought being something by Pinky and Perky (I was only 2 at the time), first proper record bought - Queen - Killer Queen (still no change in musical taste - I think it was the cheekbones, teeth and feathers that did it for me) - first musical love - Generation X (getting worse all the time) - first proper musical love - Echo and the Bunnymen. Reared on the Stones, Shadows, Elvis, Gene, Velvets, Monkees and Beethoven (how I got to my teens is beyond me) - discovered punk, new wave and late 70's electronic music shivvering in a place in the pantry where there should have been a tin of baked beans - needless to say I was disappointed, hungry and slightly preturbed by the fact that punk, new wave and late 70's electronic music where hiding in the dark in our pantry beneath the stairs....it was around this time that our kid discovered the Wombles under the sofa in the front room. To this day I've always maintained I drew the short straw (see it's the dressing up, funny voices, ears, teeth and stuff) - never again did I venture into the pantry for fear of discovering heavy metel (funny voices, dressing up, ears, teeth and other such things were all well and good - spandex I drew the line on). But then discovering music in the strangest of places has been the burden I carry asides discovering goth behind a set of crimpers (not mine I hasten to add), psycho-punk-a-billy free inside a packet of crisps (worcester sauce in case you were wondering) and other such like is then any surprise that I'm scared to answer the call of nature. In fact only a month or five ago we discovered the latest loves of our lives Hush the Many hiding under a small shrub would you believe and the equally thrilling Victorian English Gentlemens Club most curiously of all kicking the crap out of our Hi-Fi. But as to musical loves pick the bones out of the following - Magazine, Joy Division, Dormannu, Cocteaus, Hey Paulette, Weather Prophets, House of Love, Levitation, the Loft, MBV, Sonic Youth, Volcano the Bear, Nyman, Debussy, Stereolab, Chron Gen, Phantom Surfers, Porcupine Tree, Nick Drake, Tim Buckley, Seeds, Sonics, Link, Fall, Merzbow, FortDax, Jarre, Cale, Stockhausen, Raymond Scott, Radiophonic Workshop, Walking Seeds, Barret / Floyd, Ex Post Facto, Wah (including either / or Shambeko, Heat or plain old Wylie), PiL, Banshees, Radiohead, Shaggs, Shonen Knife, GMFTPO, ACR, XTC, Wire, Micro Disney, Xmal, DK's, Thunders, Flamin Groovies, Soft Boys....or better still go to www.losingtoday.com and check for Singled Out to see which of the current crop are floating our boat (musically you understand).......
  • Movies

It's a Wonderful Life, Exorcist 1 and 3, Silent Running, Spring and Port Wine, Billy Liar, School for Scoundrels, High Fidelity, Once upon a time in the West, Grosse Point Blank, It's a mad, mad, mad, mad, mad, made etc..........world, Wicker Man, the Rebel, Kind hearts and Coronets, the Ladykillers (the original not the remade rubbish), Passport to Pimlico, the Grudge, Head, Spinal Tap, Toy Story 1 and 2, Lost in Translation.....does anyone have a sadder list - somehow think not!
  • Television

'currently' - the Mighty Boosh, two pints of lager and a packet of crisp, No Angels - 'sometime past' -GBH, Our Friends in the North, Hancocks Half Hour, BILKO (quite possibly the finest thing to have appeared on the goggle box since they invented a screen)
  • Books

England's Dreaming, Lipstick Traces, Rip it Up, Last Train to Memphis and Careless Love, Revolution in my Head, Death of a Salesman
  • Heroes

John Peel, Tony Hancock, Elvis and Ringo Starr. peel tribute image

More Myspace Stuff hello you have stumbled upon the small, quiet lair of the Sunday Experience. A safe refuge from a maddening world, a secret parlour perhaps or a small dusty looking library annexe that time has chosen to forget. A place where the mood is forever spring time. The gentle crackle of an open fire illuminates the would be room where a genteel yet unmistakable aroma of timelessness prevails, in the corner a phonographic musical device plays sounds you never knew existed and sounds you did know existed but where to scared or swayed by others to give your time up to. The sounds are of the psychedelic type, sometimes power pop, sometimes punk, maybe electronic, perhaps folk even abstract or just plain strange - there are no boundaries - each holds a place in our heart and each has the potential upon the listener of being life changing. So kick off your shoes pull up a pew - recline and relax with a hot cuppa at your side - and welcome to the Sunday Experience....... Adviruz is the artist psedonym of Istanbul’s Pinar Gurcan, whose growing passion for sound is translated through her music. Since an early age, she has been listening and mimicking opera singers, writing melodies, songs and poems in which she spoke her mind and reflected her soul. All of which are evident on "Nightly Sounds", an 8 track album which is the equivilent of having a glimpse into a diary, learning of love lost, gained, a snapshot of the human condition from which we can all draw experience... All of these things are developed musically into minimalistic glitch, noise, idm, experimental music and microsounds, its influences reminiscent of work by artists like Tujiko Noriko, Mira Calix, Plaid and Björk.

Adviruz and Section 27 present "Nightly Sounds", an intricately woven and rewarding musical tapestry. Available now for free download.

    [S27-027] Various Artists - SECTIONED

To celebrate our first 27 releases on Section 27 Netlabel, we proudly present to you "Sectioned", a compilation of 27 tracks, amounting to 2 hours across two discs of twisted electronic beats, discordant melodies, haunting passages, broken ambience, bending senses of time and space, microscopic glitches, pounding bass frequencies, sounds between sounds, the human voice and the audible sensation of music dissolving in acid. This is the sound of your mind's eye. This is the sound of the Sectioned... Strap yourself in and enjoy the experience.

Also features a 75 minute bonus disc "Sectioned : Nonimxs", including 9 remixes of selected Section 27 artists by Nonima and 2 original tracks created by Silent Snow and Nina Kardec using existing Nonima tracks.

    [S27-026] Nonima & theAudiologist - Almost Tomorrow
    (Glitch, Ambient, Downtempo, IDM)

    ..
Click image to go to download page

Almost Tomorrow is the third full length collaboration album from Section 27 Netlabel founders Tam Ferrans and Andrew Paterson, under their Nonima & theAudiologist guise. This time around the sound is more melodic, and has a definite feeling of a complete and more mature sound than heard on the previous LP's "Dystopian Battle Hymns" and "Ceremony After Amputation". If you are familiar with their individual projects you may even be in for a slight surprise, as the tracks are not as beat driven like before, but are more atmospheric and sound, well... "bigger". In its 75 minutes, Almost Tomorrow takes you on a trip from the digital rain-soaked cavernous scraping in "Thoughtograph", the ethereal beat jittering of "The Colour of Rain", intercepted transmissions from unknown places in "Com-Intercept", "Ganzfeld"s huge yet strangely insect-like beats until everything you knew comes crashing around you in "Almost Tomorrow". Burning pianos, glitched out soundscapes and intricately programmed beatplay, this may well be their best work to date. Consider it the soundtrack to a rainy overcast day, but with just that glimmer of sunshine peeking from the clouds. "Almost Tomorrow" wears its heart on its sleeve.
