Have you ever wondered why music today often sound so dull? It just seems to lack those fundamental ingredients that make up good music: An exciting sound, great songs and loads of fun.
Well, the Surfites are all those things, and more! Their sounds are wild and captivating, always exciting whether you're at home, on the beach or at a swingin' party!
The Surfites, a gang of landlocked gremmies playing trad instrumental surf music. Formed in 2004 by the two Fjellgren brothers of Swedish 90's surf band the Daytonas. Debut album "Big Pounder" released in 2007 by U.S. label Double Crown Records, followed by "Escapades in Space" in 2008.
"The 15 tracks take the listener on a remarkable out-of-this-world journey, blending vintage surf guitar sounds with Space Age-inspired melodies."
Jeff Berkwits, Java's Bachelor Pad
"The Surfites have succeeded in "Going where no surf has gone before" and have not only prevailed musically, but the packaging artwork and concept is second to none."
The Paisley Umbrella
"The Surfites continue down their path with very optimistic melodies in mono with great reverb!"
Phil Dirt, Reverb Central
Second album from this talented instro surf combo and well on par with their excellent debut Big Pounder. The space theme works great with loads of reverb and I would simply describe the songs as spaced-up surf music. Highly recommended for anyone into first wave era surf sounds.
Simple and energetic - the type of music that makes you tap your feet and nod along. You don't get exhausted by listening to this music - it gives energy to you.
This is it! The must have cd for surf instro fans. If you like traditional surf instrumentals, you're going to dig this cd. All songs written by the band (namely the Fjellgren bro's) and there's not a dud in the lot. There's loads of reverb, and that's a signature sound of a surf song. Reverb, reverb & more reverb. Did I mention the cool reverb soaked sounds? What a fabulous cd! Double Crown has again produced a great cd by a great band. Cute cover too.
Man, this is one wild surf album! The back cover states "16 swingin' tunes for the tuffest of gremmies" and this couldn't be more true. Very authentic vintage sounds and song structures as well as great song writing. Definitely one of the most boss surf instro CDs in a long time!
Every track features a big, bright, reverberated twang, every track is an original composition from guitarists Klas and Jack Fjellgren, and every track pays tribute to the best the genre has to offer (surf, hot-rod, spaghetti, etc.). Another winner from Double Crown! The sound samples will give you an excellent overview; if you like them, you'll love the CD.
This is easily one of the best surf cds since 1998. These guys have the drip and melody spot on. Not your normal Em drudge or riff oriented 90s rehash. This is just great. This is surf music.
Hey SURFITES! Thanks for the add! GREAT songs! Pleased to know about you, compañeros! Cheers from this part of the world! A brotherly embrace from Bahía Blanca, Argentina.
"DJ Monkey …soul-stirring, excitingly edgy music…just disturbing (read ‘mind-f**king’) enough to demand attention. There is a whole spice rack of auditory flavors here, served up like fractured poetry on a collection of intensely listenable Hallmark cards from Hell." Bill Margold, Cinema Seen, L.A. X..Press
