The Swamp Ward Orchestra performs dance tunes from French and Eastern European traditions with infectious energy on an unusual collection of instruments: accordion, hurdy-gurdy, cello, banjo, and double bass. We have a high octane sound of drones, fancy accordion riffs, and driving bass, but we also play sweet waltzes and klezmer laments. We love to sing, too: in selecting traditional songs from Québec, we tend toward the odd, funny, and macabre.
Named after the neighbourhood in which we live in Kingston, Ontario, the Orchestra was formed in 2004 and has performed extensively at local venues such as the Skeleton Park Music Festival, the Buskers' Rendezvous, and the Feast of Fields. Out-of-town gigs have included the Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival (2009), the traditional French music festival Chants de Vielles near Montréal (2008), and the Mill Race Festival of Traditional Music in Cambridge, Ontario (2006, 2009). In 2006, we recorded our debut CD, Donkey Boy. In summer 2009, we released an EP titled The Pine Street Sessions.

It is with a mix of emotions that I announce the start of the second phase of the jim charette sound project.I am very excited about the new direction it has taken for me as of late but I am also profoundly saddened by the loss of a friend who's death was the inspiration for this first piece.Please give it a listen if you have a chance and let me know what you think.
