Nathan Barbarino - Vocals, Guitar -
Nathan is number 7 of Vinnie Barbarino's 22 sons, and the only one not named "Vinnie". When Nathan gets confused ("What?") during band practice ("Where?") and forgets the lyrics he will often resort to the Barbarino standard and sing his last name along to the tune of The Beach Boys' "Barbara Ann" - "Bar-Bar-Bar Bar-Bar-barino...".
Hammie "Boom Boom" Washington - Bass -
Hi there. Ham, like his uncle Freddie, got his nickname from the sound made by his bass. Less fortunate is Ham's triangle playing brother, who is known as Johnnie "Ting Ting" Washington. Ham is not as athletically gifted as his famous uncle Freddie. He had to take dodge ball four times at James Buchanan High School before finally receiving a passing grade. His band mates suggest that all of those blows to the head have made him a "bit goofy".
Jeffrey Horshack - Guitar - Unlike his fellow band mates, Jeffrey is not "officially" related to an original Sweathog. Arnold Horshack never had any children, brothers, or uncles. However, Jeffrey insists they must be related because, "How many Horshacks do you know?". Jeff also shares Arnold's trademark laugh and willingness to participate. While they thought it was funny in school, his band mates find his habit of raising his hand and screaming "Oh! Oh!" during practice unnecessary. He will also proudly tell anyone who will listen that Horshack is a very old and respectful name which means "the cattle are dying".
Ramón Luis Pedro Phillipo DeHuevos Epstein - Drums - The Sweathogs first drummer, Ricardo Luis Pedro Phillipo DeHuevos Epstein, got caught spray painting old Mr. Woodman's car and was given detention for "the rest of his life". So, The Sweathogs found themselves looking for a new drummer. Good thing Epstein's mother had a ridiculous amount of children. Ricardo and Juan's brother Ramón has filled in the empty drum seat. Ramón, like most of the Epstein boys, always tries to live up to his older brother Juan's "tough" reputation, but doesn't always get it right. If someone starts harassing him, he will quickly pull out one of his drumsticks - not to beat the person with them, but to challenge them to a "pencil fight". The band was pleased to find out that he didn't have his older brother's reputation for being late for practice. However, he will often try to leave early, pulling out a note from "Epstein's Mother" explaining why he has to go.
Influences
B.B. King, Chuck Berry, Howlin' Wolf, Bo Diddley, Little Richard, Muddy Waters, etc.
The Sweathogs are a Blues-Rock cover band from Central New York, performing our own versions of songs by the pioneers of Rock N Roll - Bo Diddley, Howlin' Wolf, Little Richard, B.B. King, etc.
While The Sweathogs take our music and performance very seriously, we do not take ourselves too seriously. The main goals of this band are to have fun playing music we love and to pay tribute to the original artists that recorded this music. We believe that our show will appeal to both a typical Blues audience and also those that enjoy Classic Rock, so we look forward to playing in a variety of different venues.
If you'd like to book the band, or for more information about us, please send a message to this page or an e-mail to thesweathogsny@hotmail.com.
The first video below is our version of "Roll Over Beethoven" recorded at The Lost Horizon in Syracuse, NY on May 30, 2009 (Iron Maiden fans out there might recognize the riff at the end of the song). The second video is our version of Mississippi John Hurt's "I'm Satisfied" recorded at The Lost Horizon on November 7, 2009. Both videos are two camera mixes (thanks Kelly & Courtney!).
