I remember when System of a Down really blew up, and I didn't like them. I respected the fact they were doing something different to a lot of the scene at the time, with the original vocal style and all but it just didn't speak to me. The Tagnuts are doing something different in a similar way, but they really do speak to me, the CD is outstanding not just meaning good.
The blend of funky ska-influenced verses with hard-as-nails shout along terrace choruses are a sure fire winner for a few bands, but the Tagnuts manage to use these elements in a style that is uniquely their own. Lyrically a long way ahead of a lot of their contemporaries, Gimpin' contains punk standards of heartbreak, change, drugs, booze and tasty social commentary all handled expertly without sounding at all clichéd.
Songs written to be not so much catchy as downright addictive include the observant Think About It, and don't we all know a girl or two like this? The de-ja-vu feeling continues on Ketaminge and Cider Shits, dealing with the somewhat less glamourous aspects of having a good chemical influenced time. Chavtastic worried me at first because it's so easy to treat the subject ignorantly, but this track not only treats it with thoughtful good humour, it's funky and tough and makes for the best track on the CD.
Gimpin' contains what is becoming a lost art, a decent fucking ear for a tune. Not necessarily always complex melodies and the album's sound is uniform, but the tunes themselves all stand out as well-written and great fun. Well worth the (Extremely low!) asking price, Gimpin' sits nicely alongside The Ruts in my collection, and should in yours too.

LAST GANG IN TOWN STRUMMERVILLE BENEFIT & LAST GANG’S 6th BIRTHDAY GIG
THE YALLA YALLAS are a fantastic punk rock ‘n’ roll band from Leeds. Their name was chosen as a rallying call to unify. “So long liberty, lets forget you didn’t show. Not in my time” a sentiment expressed on an early Joe Strummer recording & one which struck a chord with the band and their audience. Some members have appeared in The Dead Pets, 3milehigh & The Gushers & they now share a common goal to bring anthemic mayhem to wherever they play. http://www.myspace.com/theyallayallas
