Saturdays Vibes in the Vines was a complete success. We played to a sell out crowd and raised thousands of pounds for Cancer Research which was what it all was about. Tricky Beats (Drum Ensemble) kicked the night off with some fantastic beats and rhythms straight from the heart, on their bongo's, congas, and djembie's etc. bringing on the mood for dancing. Then the Ashdown Forest Barn dance Band, kept the people hopping with line dances, square dances and every other dance you can think of. All the while there were face painting, games, contests and drawings going on as well as some great food put on by Wesson's and of course all the alcohol that one could possibly think of drinking on the night.
Then to top it all off myself and the band played out the rest of the night with lots of covers and a few originals from the new album, keeping the people hopping until almost midnight. We even managed a few requested numbers that we don't usually play.
All in all it was great night and I apologise if you didn't get your tickets in time but we had to keep the numbers low this year as it was a more intimate setting than last year......Only five hundred, instead of 3000.
Anyway stay tuned for more local gigs coming up and a possible Euro tour See you out there sometime soon.........T.W

The choice by Tricky Dicky of "It will be me" the B side of Jerry Lee Lewis's debut single is so apt in many ways, a hot rocker, and debut number here, and a song written about reincarnation as well. Reincarnation, do what John? Well for those of you who don't know, Tricky has spent about 30 years unravelling the meaning of life ( and I mean unravelling) mostly from a Buddhist perspective, so when he returns next time, he hopes he will be in The Bay City Rollers, rather than Mungo! No, seriously, Dick follows the precepts of Buddhism and is laying down good karma the Telecaster way, so good on you old fellow. However, with regard to "It'll be me" (and not many people know this), that the song was written by Sun Record's house producer "Cowboy" Jack Clement and was "concocted on the toilet while contemplating the possibility of reincarnation". Sam Phillips the owner of Sun had high hopes for the single especially this song but was concerned that the A side- "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On" was too sexually suggestive. The problem with Cowboy's song was the line that went "If you see a turd in your toilet bowl, baby, it'll be me and I'll be starin' at you" this was changed to what you still hear today 50 years on, "If you find a lump in your sugar bowl" which if you think about it, still doesn't really make sense in reincarnation terms, as both turds and lumps of sugar are not real living creatures (at least I hope not!). Anyhow for all you good folks who love your rock 'n' roll, apart from going to see these guys play, have a dip into "Good Rockin' Tonight"- the Sun Story by Escott and Hawkins which is where I discovered the above factette! The book, however, does not show the famous picture of Cowboy in the US Marines doing guard duty for the Queen and Prince Philip- "One understands that your crazy rocker is a song about turds,
