The Taxi is the kind of band that can make a dreary club electric, persuade the most reluctant listeners to dancing, and turn the hardest critics into fans. One can expect The Taxi’s show to construct a wall of sound seemingly too big for a four-piece act. The group combines straight-ahead synth rock songs and soulful lullabies with soaring vocals and vulnerable lyrics that penetrate the hearts and minds of everyone in ear-shot. High-energy, high-spirited, moving, touching, fresh and passionate performances are gaining the Atlanta-based band fans all across the southeast. Formed in the summer of 2005, The Taxi began as four piece acoustic act consisting of cello, piano, hand percussion and guitar, with three part harmony. This pseudo acoustic-jazz sound was captured on their very first five song demo. A year later The Taxi’s sound changed into an acoustic pop jive, wielding a drum kit and bass guitar in lieu of hand percussion and cello. The sound for the group was recorded on their first full-length, 11 track album. Two years and a single release later, the group released their most recent EP. The demo’s four tracks explore The Taxi’s most mature and permanent sound consisting of electric guitar, synth and keyboard, drums, bass, and studio loops and beats. The first song entitled “I Won’t Be Too Far” hits hard with brisk, unforgettable melodies that resonate with listeners. Further into the demo, “Wake Me Up Inside” finds a backbeat and a more intimate and soft side of the group. The last track, “Second Best” invites listeners to examine very personal issues and emotions, while the lyrics demand a better answer to life. The EP now live on iTunes. While touring the southeast, the group is putting together new material for a full-length album. They plan to extend their reach across the country.
