Teeny Awards's Interests
General • The mission of the TEENY AWARDS© is to recognize and celebrate the talented theatre students across the East End of Long Island, to encourage them to pursue their dreams, and to stimulate local interest while developing an understanding of the value of theatre education in a well rounded school curriculum. We strive to raise the bar on theatre education by encouraging increased attendance and community pride at our school productions, much like school sports organizations. Music Theatre Movies

About me:
What Are the TEENY AWARDS©?
• A student theatre arts recognition program of the East End Arts Council and the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center, established in 2002, patterned after the Tony Awards.
• Qualified judges attend plays at participating high schools throughout the East End and score students in a number of categories.
• Highest scoring students are nominees; highest scoring student in each category is the winner in categories of drama, comedy and musical. Others include choreography, set design, lighting design, poster art, and recognition of stage managers.
• “Innovations in Theatre Education,” goes to one school each year that goes above and beyond the usual high school play.
• In June, nominees & their families attend a gala awards ceremony ~ each winner is announced and presented with an elegant glass trophy and a scholarship. Students attend in prom gowns and tuxedos.
There are no words to describe the excitement of the evening and the comradery these young people share. One student aptly described theatre as his “sport,” and we look at this competition as the “playoffs.”
