Quintessential English shoegazer band formed in 1988 by Stephen Lawrie (born 28 March 1969, East Hartford, Northumberland, England; vocals), Joanna Doran (b. Wednesbury, West Midlands, England; guitar/vocals), David Fitzgerald (b. 30 August 1966, Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, England; bass), Robert Brooks (b. 11 April 1969, Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire, England) and Dominic Dillon (b. 26 September 1964, Bolton, Lancashire, England).
The Telescopes started out peddling a fearsome noise which owed much to the path laid earlier in the decade by "The Jesus and Mary Chain". Their first release was a flexidisc shared with "Loop" and sold with the Sowing Seeds fanzine, after which came two temperamental singles on Cheree records followed by a deal with the American What Goes On label. Unfortunately, after a further brace of singles and one album in 1989, What Goes on succumbed to bankcruptcy, leaving "The Telescopes" to battle for the rights to their own songs and sign to Creation Records.
The change of label coincided with a change in musical style as the group added lighter shades and harmonies to their intense guitar-based sound, a development which paid dividends when their 8th single, 'Flying' reached number 79 in the UK charts in 1991.
'Another Deal' is the first single from the forthcoming Palace Of Pleasure album, scheduled for release in August/September 2008.
The single will be available as download only (iTunes etc.), but you can download it for free for a limited period at: www.myspace.com/palaceofpleasure
Yes, I managed to miss the release of the first PoP single since I joined the band (and my first single release ever!), but that's what happens when you're in the middle of the north Atlantic, running around in viking clothes. Anyway, I hope you'll follow my belated advice and check out our new tune. Download it for free and start dancing! :D
sorry for that I must have given you the mistaken one.
That's crazy because I tried that one a time ago too, the one I gave you, and it made me all angry because they were bad, and they didn't pay too good either they gavelike things and stuff instead of money.

Hi everybody you came back into my mind after a long long time. I'm glad to find that the telescopes have been part of my life. I hope you soon will change songs on your profile to "anticipating nowhere" or "there is no floor", or i'll have to buy another turntable. Love from Italy.
Hi Telescopes The Maybes have been nominated Best Myspace Act at the Danish Music Awards (which is a pretty big deal in Denmark). We’d really like to put that shiny statuette on our mantle piece back home. Please throw a bunch of votes in our direction at www.myspace.com/danishmusicawards before Sunday and tell all your friends to do the same.
We could see thoughts in your pose The way you stood wrote your mind The cold never seemed to fall The lines were drawn like an arrow between Let your hair fall to shield you eyes But the trust between would never dissolve We knew what you saw when you looked Reading drops reflected falling into puddles And what it was held you terrified Arms held loosely by your side, akimbo The narrowing we saw in your eyes When you saw the patterns left behind We believed in you
Sultry goddess, you spin the stars above us Bring questions to our answers Your prophesies sealing fates for use at a better time And no one is left alone By the cool grey cloth that fall between us Charts telling truths only you could see The patterns in the sky weaving A taste of clouds building, dangerous Vigil candles burning through the night We believed in you
You wore the sky like water On the sand we found ourselves shifting In response to the understanding That the sun may be your only friend But you turned your head away And let talk what we could never debate<
