East Oakland’s Sunspot Jonz beats are always tight, and sometimes songs are entertaining, funny, BANGIN, or get your groove on smooth, but somewhere, buried in there is a pearl of wisdom, or social commentary waiting to be unwrapped. Sunspot Jonz is a visionary artist and film maker sharing his vision, intellect, and insights, and shining a light on the injustice and inequity that exists in the world, culturally, socially, and politically. Sunpot’s message has always been one of possibility, of hope, and of change, and founded legendary Hip Hop groups Mystik Journeyman and Living Legends, sampling musical genres and making beats and sampling songs, sounds, and languages. Julian Brooks MC and founding member of the The Mod Squad signed to TNT records, the same label that put out Digital Underground, Tupac, Raw Fusion, and Gold Money met Sunspot Jonz at a BBQ in Oakland in 1991. The Mod Squad pioneered the trip hop sound with their critically acclaimed Peoples Park album the then termed “alt. Hip Hop” wowed music reviewers, they were eventually picked up by Priority Records, and their music & videos were featured worldwide & in the states on BET and Video Soul. The next move for Mod Squad was to fuse Electronica with live instrumentation and they played as a live band.. Their live show took off leading to steady booking and they developed a strong live following in the Bay area, and played all of the most popular venues. This run lasted three years and culminated in the indie release Abstract Truth in 1995. Julian broke into the House music Rave scene with Conscious Groove and Lments. As a singer, song writer, producer, Julian experimented with many forms of music. He began producing and performing alt. Indie rock, but also continued to experiment with his first love, Hip Hop. For the past seven years Julian has blended all of the genres of music he has pioneered and experimented with and infused them into Hip Hop beats. From Mt. Fuji, to the Outback to Europe and all over N. America Sunspot Jonz has performed, and spread the gospel of underground Hip Hop world wide. Keeping the original vision of Hip Hop alive, encouraging us to control our own destiny and choose a different reality, Sunspot is a force that unites the underground. He Consistently makes something from nothing. A chance meeting in LA reunited Julian with SunSpot Jonz. When Sunspot listened to Julian’s library, they had an idea for a project, this idea sparked Julian to create a whole new range of Hip Hop beats. The Temper Twins were born, fusing Julian’s HipHop, Drum N Bass, Electronica, House, and alt. indie rock, with Sunspots signature pounding bass lines, melodies and lyrics. These two innovators and pioneers, Julian Brooks aka “Jimmy Temper” and Sunspot Jonz aka “Tim Temper” are creating yet another genre of music. Underground means against all odds. A revolutionary, a pioneer, Sunspot Jonz and the Temper Twins can never be stopped.
